Stars vs. Avalanche Game 2 Prediction, Stanley Cup Playoff Odds
After a 4-0 win over the Stars in the Western Conference round-robin, the Avalanche seemed to take Dallas lightly in Game 1 of the second round. The Stars came out with a 5-3 win in the game and have a 1-0 series lead heading into Game 2 on Monday.
The Avalanche are slight favourites on the NHL odds at -165 with the Stars at +137. Puck drop is set for 9:45 p.m. ET.
Stars vs. Avalanche Betting Analysis
The Avalanche are a high scoring team with the over 4-0 in the Avalanche’s last four games overall. The Stars can score too, with the over 4-1-1 in the Stars’ last six games playing on one days rest.
The Stars have had the Avalanche’s number for most of the year, going 5-1 in their last six games against the Avs and 4-0 in their last four games overall.
In NHL history the winner of Game 1 has gone on to win the series 68.7 per cent of the time (485-220). Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon’s nine game point streak to start the playoffs is one off of Avalanche/Nordiques’ legend Joe Sakic’s franchise record.

The Stars top line finally came alive in Game 1. Alexander Radulov had two goals and one assist, Jamie Benn had three assists and Tyler Seguin scored his first goal of the playoffs and added an assist. Anton Khudobin was solid, making 28 saves on 31 shots.
With his assist in Game 1, Miro Heiskanen now leads defensemen in playoff scoring with 13 points (3G, 10A). The Stars are still considered underdogs in Game 2, but they can exploit the cracks they see in the Avalanche lineup. It’s tough to contain MacKinnon, but if Dallas can shutdown the rest of the Avalanche scorers again and capitalize on the Grubauer injury, they have a good shot at winning Game 2 and taking a big lead in the series.
