San Jose Sharks vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds
There are big implications for the Pacific Division on Tuesday night, as the San Jose Sharks visit the Edmonton Oilers.
Only five points separate these squads in the division, and with San Jose having three games in-hand, this four-point matchup becomes even bigger heading into the final dozen games of the regular season.
The NHL odds have the Oilers listed as -180 favourites at home, with the OVER/UNDER set at 6.5 goals. Puck drop from the Rogers Place is set for 9 p.m. EST.
Sharks vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds
This will be the third out of a four-game season series between the Sharks and Oilers, with San Jose taking the most recent matchup on Feb. 28. The Sharks’ win broke a streak of seven straight losses to Edmonton and evened the series, one game apiece. Both matchups this season have been one-goal games (4-3, 5-4), hitting the OVER.
Despite covering just twice in their past six, San Jose still leads the league in covers with a 41-24 record ATS. The offence has been clicking over the past week, scoring four goals in three straight games. They have only managed to hit the OVER in one of those games. While it will be tough for the NHL not to give the Jack Adams Award to Buffalo’s head coach, taking Ryan Warsofsky at +8000 might be a value pick if the Sharks can end the season on a high note.
It’s no surprise that the Oilers are a top-five offensive team at this point in the season, averaging 3.5 goals per game. They are no stranger to a high scoring contest, posting a 39-26-3 record on the OVER/UNDER. Per usual, Connor McDavid is in the running for most of the big awards this season. He ranks fourth favourite for the Hart (+1300), the Rocket (+1100) and is the favourite for the Art Ross (+155). Find all our props on the NHL futures board.
San Jose Sharks
The Sharks will be wrapping up a five-game road trip Tuesday night in Edmonton, splitting the first four contests 2-2. They opened the trip with a loss in Buffalo, followed by back-to-back 4-2 wins in Boston and Montreal. Their most recent outing on Sunday in Ottawa had multiple lead changes, but ultimately resulted in a 7-4 loss.
San Jose opened the scoring and took a 2-1 lead into the second period on goals from Mario Ferraro (sixth) and Tyler Toffoli (18th). The Senators outscored the Sharks 3-1 in the middle frame to grab a 4-3 lead headed to the third. Michael Misa (seventh) tied things up early in the third, before the Sens potted three unanswered to bring the game to a 7-4 final.
Macklin Celebrini had an assist in the game, extending his point streak to nine games, putting him at 95 points (35G, 60A), good for fifth-most in the league. He is the second favourite for the Hart Trophy this season behind Nathan MacKinnon. Celebrini is paying out at +250, and if his team makes the postseason, his odds will only increase.
Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton has had a decent month so far, posting a 4-2-1 record in March after snapping a two-game skid on Sunday at home versus the Nashville Predators.
Connor McDavid led the charge in the 3-1 win, putting up three assists in the game. Leon Draisaitl opened the scoring on the power play with his 35th of the season, his 16th goal with the man advantage. Matt Savoie (11th) put the Oilers up 2-0 in the second period, before the Preds cut the lead in half early in the third. Zach Hyman (28th) added the insurance marker with an empty net goal with 1:07 left on the clock.
Seems as though Connor Ingram has stolen the starting job from Tristan Jarry, getting the start in seven of the team’s last 10 games. He stopped 26 of 27 shots on Sunday, picking up his 10th win of the season.
The Oilers are holding down third place in the Pacific Division, two points back of first and four ahead of the Kraken in fourth. Despite the inconsistency this season, their reputation still has oddsmakers marking them as a Stanley Cup contender. After back-to-back finals appearances, they are sitting at +1100 to win the Cup, behind all the natural disasters, the Avalanche, Lightning and Hurricanes.
