The final day of the 2025-26 NHL regular season is here, and the San Jose Sharks and Winnipeg Jets are set to close out their respective campaign with a meeting on Thursday night in Winnipeg.
Both the Sharks and Jets are outside of the playoff picture, as San Jose enters with 84 points on the season compared to Winnipeg’s 82.
It will be the third meeting of the season between these Western Conference teams. San Jose has been victorious in both previous meetings, winning by a score of 2-1 on November 7 and 2-1 again in overtime on March 1. However, both of those games were at home; this will be their first trip to Winnipeg since February of last season.

Despite owning similar records and being just two points apart in the standings, oddsmakers are giving a significant edge to the Jets. When it comes to the puck line, the Sharks have been impressive with a mark of 48-32-0. The same cannot be said for the Jets, who are just 39-42-0 against the spread. San Jose Sharks
The Sharks may have missed the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season, but the future is bright. San Jose was vying for a playoff spot throughout the second half of the year, and while they came up short, they showed they’re making progress in their rebuild. The Sharks’ fifth-place finish in the Pacific is their best since 2018-2019, and the young core of players they possess gives Sharks fans a lot to look forward to.
Celebrini has proven that he is already among the top players in the NHL, and he enters this matchup ranking fourth with 112 points. Will Smith has been a great complement to Celebrini on San Jose’s top line, and he ranks second on the Sharks with 57 points in 67 games.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets have missed the playoffs for just the second time over the last nine seasons and for the first time since 2021-2022. Coach Scott Arniel led the Jets to 116 points in his first season, but Winnipeg took a big step back in his second season behind the bench. The scoring depth hasn’t been the same, and the power play has dropped from a league-high 28.9% last season to 23rd at 18.8% this season.
Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is also enduring a season that’s not up to his standards. Hellebuyck’s save percentage dropped from .925 last season to .895 this season and his goals-against average has increased from 2.00 to 2.86. He is slated to be between the pipes in this one, looking to end the season on a high note after allowing 11 total goals over his last two starts.
NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Sharks vs. Jets?
The Sharks are already 2-0 against the Jets this season, which should give them plenty of confidence heading into this matchup. Hellebuyck has had an up-and-down season, and he is not playing well down the stretch. San Jose’s young offensive core should be able to take advantage. I expect the Sharks to win this matchup by a score of 4-3.
