San Jose Sharks vs. Calgary Flames Prediction, NHL Odds
Calgary’s playoff chances dropped to zero on Monday when they fell in a shootout to Nashville for their league-worst 17th overtime loss. San Jose’s been long out of it with a 22-42-16 record on the season and in a position to land a top-five draft pick this offseason.
The Sharks come in having dropped four straight contests, last taking the ice Monday in a 6-2 defeat at Winnipeg. Wednesday’s the middle game of a three-game Canadian road swing for San Jose. They’ll go to Edmonton after duelling with the Flames.
Puck drop at the Scotiabank Saddledome gets started at 10 p.m. EDT with Calgary a -220 moneyline favourite on home ice and the total at 6.5 on the NHL odds.
Sharks vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds
The Sharks come into Wednesday having each of their last six outings finish over the total. San Jose’s allowed the third-most goals per game this season (3.84) and have let in six goals in three straight contests. Calgary hasn’t scored over three goals in four consecutive matches as the offence never got going this season.
Calgary’s taken four of these teams’ last five meetings. The Flames have scored 17 goals in three wins versus the Sharks this season, five of which were scored by leading scorer Tyler Toffoli. The Flames only have four wins in their last 13 home contests though, which is another reason why they won’t be competing for a Stanley Cup this spring.
San Jose Sharks
Erik Karlsson reached a historic mark Monday when his second goal of the game got him to 100 points. With the century mark in points, Karlsson became the first defenceman since 1991–92 to achieve this milestone. Unfortunately, Karlsson’s magnificent year is about all that went right for San Jose. A couple of other Sharks hit some milestones Monday as Logan Couture notched his 700th career point while Jacob Peterson made it a career-high seven-game point streak with assists on Karlsson’s opening goal.
James Reimer let in six goals on 33 shots Monday to fall to 12-20-8 with an .891 save percentage this season. Both Reimer and Kaapo Kahkonen have started the majority of San Jose’s contests and both sport save percentages well below .900.
Calgary Flames
Back-to-back extra time defeats were a fitting way for the Flames’ post-season chances to end. And outshooting Nashville 44-29 in a losing effort was even more on par. Calgary’s second in the NHL with 35.8 shots per game but 19th with 3.15 goals. Toffoli’s the only skater with over 25 goals, which is a tough pill to swallow for a first-place team last year with three 40-goal scorers.
Andrew Mangiapane had a pair of assists in Monday’s loss against Nashville, making for his second multi-point game in Calgary’s last three outings. Although Mangiapane’s one of the more disappointing Flames this season, going from 35 goals last year to 17 this season.
