Ottawa Senators vs. Buffalo Sabres: NHL Odds, Prediction
The Senators and Sabres have only had professional pride on the line for the two months. No player wants the embarrassment of playing for the worst team in the NHL and the Sabres can crawl out of the cellar if they win their last two games of the season and get some help from Ottawa.
Senators vs. Sabres Betting Analysis
Ottawa is coming off a 6-5 home loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Monday and has just one win in its last nine games. The Senators are 27-52 straight up with three games left this season. A dedicated Sens backer would be down $2007 if they bet on their club in each game this season.
The Sabres lost 5-2 at Toronto on Monday and dropped to 3-7 in their last 10 games and 25-54 on the season. Buffalo isn’t a favourite very often but the club is 0-4 SU in its last four games as chalk.
The Sabres are 7-2 in the last nine games against the Senators including last month when they won 4-3 in a shootout at Ottawa. The under is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between these two Atlantic division foes.
Ottawa Senators
The Senators are on pace to finish with their fewest points in a full season since the franchise’s fourth year in the NHL back in 1995-96. If Ottawa does finish with the fewest points this season, it would gain an 18.5 percent chance of landing the first overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and the right to select Swedish defenceman Rasmus Dahlin.
Landing a generational rearguard talent like Dahlin could make Erik Karlsson a smidge more likely to be traded in the offseason if the right team with the right package comes calling. Karlsson isn’t travelling with his team on this road trip. He will remain with his family in Ottawa after the tragic death of his son last month.
Buffalo Sabres
Jack Eichel was held scoreless on Monday against the Leafs but he still has three goals and five assists in his last four games. The forward is the clear building block of Buffalo’s future moving forward but he can’t do much about what’s happening at the other end of the ice. The Sabres are allowing 4.1 goals per game over their last 10 contests heading into this NHL matchup.
