This is the penultimate road game of the season for Ottawa, which is playing out the string. The Senators finish at Calgary on Sunday and home to Toronto on Wednesday. It starts a regular season-ending four-game homestand for the Jets, who are playoff-bound. Winnipeg still has regular-season games vs. Vancouver twice and Toronto. The Jets will play either the Maple Leafs or Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Senators vs. Jets /8/21 Betting Analysis

Winnipeg is 6-3 vs. Ottawa this year and 3-1 at home. Mark Scheifele (4G, 9A) leads the Jets with 13 points in the season series, while Nikolaj Ehlers (5G, 6A) has 11 points and is plus-6. However, he’s currently out injured. The team hopes Ehlers will return for the post-season. Connor Hellebuyck is 4-2-0 in the season series with a 2.35 goals-against average and .917 save per centage, and Laurent Brossoit is 2-1-0 with a 2.33 GAA and .920 SV.

Ottawa season leading scorer Brady Tkachuk has four goals but is minus-4 vs. the Jets this year. The Senators have scored only 21 goals in the nine games.

The total has gone over in just three of the past 10 in this series.

Ottawa Senators

The Senators are giving their fans hope they could be a playoff team next season as they have won seven of nine with some young players starting to flash. This strong finish probably will save Coach DJ Smith’s job. The Sens were 5-1 home winners over Montreal on Wednesday.

One of those promising young players, Erik Brannstrom, had three assists for his first career multi-point game. Shane Pinto scored his first NHL goal. Anton Forsberg made 30 saves in his first outing since April 12; on Wednesday, he also signed a one-year extension with the team. It likely will either be him or Filip Gustavsson in net for this game in the front end of a back-to-back. Evgenii Dadonov was out Wednesday with an upper-body injury and is being called day-to-day. Dadonov has 13 goals and 20 points in 52 games this year.

Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 4-0 win in Calgary on Wednesday to officially clinch a playoff spot. Adam Lowry had two goals (up to 10 on the season) and an assist to be named the No. 1 star. He had been scoreless in his past eight games. Blake Wheeler was the No. 2 star with two goals for his first multi-point game since March 26. He became the fifth active U.S.-born player to reach 800 career points. Mark Scheifele had an assist for career point No. 500.

Connor Hellebuyck made 32 saves for his third shutout of the season and 23rd career. That’s tied for the third-most shutouts by a U.S.-born goaltender within his first six career NHL seasons.
