Both the Senators and Devils figure to be active ahead of the upcoming trade deadline because they aren’t going anywhere in terms of the playoffs. Ottawa has the fewest points in the NHL, while New Jersey sits at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division. Hasn’t helped the Devils that reigning Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall hasn’t played since Dec. 23 due to a lower-body injury. At what point do you just shut Hall down and save him for next season?

Senators vs Devils Betting Analysis

It’s the third and final meeting between the teams, with each holding a home victory. The one in New Jersey was the most recent matchup, a 5-2 Devils victory that started Ottawa on an eight-game losing streak. Mark Stone leads the Senators with six points (2G, 4A) vs. New Jersey, while Matt Duchene has five (2G, 3A). Craig Anderson is 1-1-0 with a 5.08 goals-against average and .862 save percentage.

Hall leads New Jersey with five points (3G, 2A) vs. Ottawa, while Kyle Palmieri has two goals and two assists. Keith Kinkaid is 1-0-0 with a 2.66 GAA and .913 SV and Cory Schneider 0-1-1 with an 8.70 GAA and .818 SV.

Ottawa is just 6-13 in its past 19 trips to New Jersey. The total has gone over in the past five meetings overall.

Ottawa Senators

When a team scores seven goals in today’s NHL, it wins that game about, what, 99.8 per cent of the time. The Senators, alas, put up seven in Chicago on Monday but lost 8-7. It was 5-4 Blackhawks after one period, just the fourth time in the past 30 years any teams combined for at least nine goals in a first period. Ottawa led 2-0 less than three minutes in on goals from Bobby Ryan and Rudolfs Balcers.

The Sens tied it 5-5 on Colin White’s 13th of the season at 1:32 of the second but wouldn’t get even again. Thomas Chabot added two third-period goals to make it interesting. Anders Nilsson got the start but didn’t even make it out of the first period before getting pulled. Anderson allowed four goals on 30 shots in relief. He had missed the previous three games with an eye injury. There are reports the Senators will scratch Duchene for this game simply to ensure he stays healthy ahead of a possible trade.

New Jersey Devils

New Jersey’s two-game winning streak was snapped in a 4-3 home loss to Pittsburgh on Tuesday as the Devils looked for the unlikely season sweep. They led both 1-0 and 2-1 in the first but wouldn’t score again until about five minutes remained in the game. Marcus Johansson scored a goal and assisted on another. He has 12 goals and 15 assists and could well be traded by Monday.

Travis Zajac played in his 900th career game, becoming the sixth player to reach at least 900 with the Devils franchise. Kinkaid allowed four goals on 28 shots to lose for the eighth time in the past 10 and fall to 15-18-6 with a 3.36 GAA and .891 SV. Centre Pavel Zacha (11G, 6A) sat Tuesday with an upper-body injury.
