With the Senators struggling to contain opposing shooters, and 90 per cent of Sports Interaction bettors backing the Bruins, Ottawa has steadily lost ground on the Wednesday game day odds, dipping to a +241 bet after opening at +227. The Bruins have vaulted to heavy -292 home favourites, while the total sports -125 odds of going OVER 5.5.
Tuesday night’s contest marks the first meeting between these Atlantic Division rivals since December 2019. The Senators earned a 5-2 win on home ice in that matchup, but the Bruins have otherwise dominated when facing Ottawa, taking home the win in each of their 10 previous regular season clashes. Low scoring has been commonplace in recent matchups, with these two teams combining to score five or fewer total goals in four of six meetings. The Senators have particularly struggled to generate offence, scoring two or fewer goals on 10 occasions over their past 12 dates with the Bruins. Success has also eluded the Senators in recent trips to Boston, where they have fallen to defeat in five straight visits.

Things have steadily gone from bad to worse for the Senators during the early weeks of the new NHL season. The club has been rocked by opponents during their current swoon, surrendering five goals in each of their five losses during their current 0-4-1 run. Matt Murray is expected to get the call between the pipes as he continues the search for his first win of the season. Murray has surrendered nine total goals over his past two outings. However, neither he nor Filip Gustavsson have received much help from the Sens defence, which has allowed opponents to rack up an average of 26 shots on goals over their past six outings.
Boston Bruins
The Bruins have shown signs of overcoming the uneven play that marked the first two weeks of their season despite falling well short in Saturday’s loss to the Maple Leafs. Boston outshot the Leafs by a wide 44-36 margin and they have produced an average of 38 shots on goal over their past three outings. Equally important has been the team’s steady play on home ice at TD Garden. The Bruins have suffered just one loss in 13 regular season contests on home ice since mid-April, and allowed just seven total goals during this season’s 4-0-0 run. Jeremy Swayman has made a solid case to claim the starting goaltender’s job. The 22-year-old has allowed just a single goal in his two home starts to date. That’s particularly good news considering just three bruins players have scored more than one goal on home ice so far this season.
