Senators vs. Bruins NHL Odds, Prediction and Picks: Ottawa Opens as Favourite in Boston
The first Monday of the new NHL season features one Original Six franchise in action among the four-game slate, and that’s Boston hosting the Ottawa Senators. The Bruins are +100 underdogs on the NHL odds with a total of 5.5 goals.
Senators vs. Bruins NHL Betting Odds
Ottawa is on the Original Six swing to open the season, winning 3-2 on Saturday night in Toronto, playing Monday in Boston and then finishing the trip in Detroit on Tuesday ahead of the Sens’ home opener on Thursday vs. Philadelphia. Boston won its home opener, 3-0 last Tuesday over the Rangers, and is back in Beantown from a two-game trip over the weekend.
Ottawa was 3-1 against the Bruins last season and 1-1 in Boston. Claude Giroux (4G, 3A), Tim Stutzle (5G, 2A) and Drake Batherson (3G, 4A) led the Senators with seven points each in the series. Linus Ullmark split his two starts, stopping 40 of 45 shots. Leevi Merilainen, now with Vancouver, won his two starts. Morgan Geekie (3G, 1A) led Boston with four points, while superstar David Pastrnak (2G, 1A) had three. No. 1 goalie Jeremy Swayman was 0-1 in two outings, allowing eight goals on 34 shots. Joonas Korpisalo, now with the Rangers, got the decision in the other three games.
The Senators are 7-3 in the past 10 meetings overall, and the over-under is 6-4-0.
Ottawa Senators
Ottawa opened the season in style with a 3-2 win in Toronto on Saturday in the “Battle of Ontario” on goals from Thomas Chabot, Michael Amadio and Stephen Halliday. Chabot added an assist and was the No. 1 star. Tonight, he can join Norm MacIver (1993-94 & 1992-93) as the second blueliner in team with multiple points in each of the first two games of a season. The Senators scored a first-period goal in their season opener for a 12th straight year, trying the league record. Linus Ullmark made 27 saves for the Sens, the final NHL team to play its opener. Blueliner Jake Sanderson left the game at 12:45 of the first period and did not return after missing part of training camp with an undisclosed injury. Consider him questionable. Forward Andre Burakovsky was out with an upper-body injury and is day-to-day. Centre Ridly Greig will be serving the final game of his two-game suspension on Monday. Linus Ullmark should start against his former Bruins team after beating the Leafs. Ullmark played in Beantown from 2022-24.
Boston Bruins
Boston comes off its first loss of the early season, 4-1, but it was the second of a back-to-back at a good Minnesota team, and the Bruins were using inexperienced backup Michael DiPietro in net. It will be back to No. 1 Jeremy Swayman here, and he’s 2-0 with three goals allowed on 57 shots. Tanner Jeannot had the lone Boston goal in Saturday’s loss, his first of the season. The Bruins remain without excellent offensive blueliner Charlie McAvoy as he continues to serve a suspension from last postseason. He had 61 points last season, including 13 on the power play. Boston is one of a handful of teams yet to score with the man advantage so far this campaign and is near the bottom of the league on the penalty kill at 57.1 per cent. Boston is 5-0 in its past five following a loss of at least three goals.
