Detroit Red Wings vs. Calgary Flames Prediction, NHL Odds

What would’ve looked like a lopsided game a couple of weeks ago now has the makings of a competitive, entertaining one. The Flames were all but written off just a month into the season after a brutal start. Although they are still three games under .500, Calgary comes into this game on a roll.

The Red Wings are in solid form themselves. Detroit recently had a four-game losing streak, but has snapped out of it and now has a four-game point streak, with three of those being wins. Both teams are playing very well right now and have made this a very watchable game.

The game is listed as a pick’em on the NHL odds, with the total set at 6.0.

Red Wings vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds

The Red Wings have found themselves in a couple of hot streaks and cold streaks. At the end of November, they collected one win in six games. Detroit is now 3-0-1 in December and will be playing the fourth of a six-game road trip.

Somewhat surprisingly, Calgary has hit a hot streak themselves and enters this game 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. Calgary has won four straight at home during that stretch as part of a respectable 7-4-2 home record. With the strong form of these teams, high game totals have been trending as well. The Over has hit in seven of Detroit’s last nine games, and in eight out of Calgary’s last 12.

Detroit Red Wings

As they have for multiple seasons now, the Red Wings have struggled with consistency. They were 8-4-0 in October, then 5-7-2 in November. With their strong start to December, Detroit has catapulted to the top of the Atlantic division, albeit by a slim margin.

If they stay healthy, this team has all the pieces. Detroit has three players, Lucas Raymond, Dylan Larkin, and Alex DeBrincat, who average over a point per game and have double-digit goals. They have a certified number one defenceman in Moritz Seider, proven goaltenders, and veteran Stanley Cup winners Patrick Kane and J.T. Compher. There is no reason this team shouldn’t beat the Flames or at least hang with any team in hockey.

Calgary Flames

As strong as the Flames have played recently, they have to sustain a version of this 7-2-1 streak for a longer term before they are considered playoff contenders. It’s a phenomenal 10-game stretch. But it remains to be seen how sustainable this is, or in general, whether or not it is a flash in the pan.

Perhaps what is driving this team’s success at the moment is that they don’t care what anyone thinks about their legitimacy. They’re taking it game by game and riding the momentum. The Flames have their work cut out for them on Wednesday and will need that “devil may care” attitude.

NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Red Wings vs. Flames?

The Flames have been tough to read, even during this streak. After three consecutive wins, they then lost three of four with two separate 5-1 losses, before winning three more consecutive games leading into this game. They beat strong teams like Dallas and Minnesota, but got crushed by a bad Nashville team.

The Flames’ unknowns of whether or not this is real and they will come back down to earth, as well as a couple of volatile performances, make them a tough click. The Red Wings are a much more known quantity, and they’re better both on paper and on the ice this season. Detroit is the more reliable play and will look to spoil Calgary’s run with a 3-1 win.
