Rangers vs. Panthers NHL Betting Odds

The NHL has announced that Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals will begin June 8. Florida can advance to that round for the second straight year with a win Saturday in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. It would have home-ice advantage against Edmonton but not Dallas. If the Rangers pull the upset here, Game 7 of this series would Monday at Madison Square Garden. New York would have home-ice advantage against either Western Conference champion.

With the Panthers taking Game 5 on Thursday, 3-2 on the road, they lead the series 3-2 and are -450 on the series line (were -135 entering Game 5) with the Rangers at +350 (were +115). Three games in the series had gone to overtime – that streak ended in Game 5 – and that it stays at a total of three overall is -250 with four games or more at +210. The only shutout of the series was Florida’s 3-0 victory in Game 1. That it remains the only blanking is -900 with two games at +500 and three at +3300.

New York Rangers

A team should not lose a playoff game at home when it scores a shorthanded goal all things equal, but that was the case for New York on Thursday. Chris Kreider’s eighth goal of these playoffs and shorthanded gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead 2:04 of the second, but the Panthers scored the next three. Alexis Lafreniere’s eighth of the playoffs at 19:10 definitely affected puckline bettors to make the final 3-2. It was Lafreniere’s third straight game with a goal as well as Kreider’s third career shorthanded playoff goal, tying Mark Messier for the most in franchise history. New York has six shorthanded goals this postseason. Those are tied for the second-most in the league in a single playoffs since 1984. Igor Shesterkin again stood on his head to keep it close, stopping 34 of 36 shots. The Panthers are dominating puck possession. This is the second time in the 2024 playoffs that New York has dropped two in a row. It also lost Games 4-5 vs. Carolina before ending the series in Game 6.

Florida Panthers

When a best-of-seven Stanley Cup playoff series is tied 2-2, the victor in Game 5 goes on to win the series nearly 80 per cent of the time (231-62; .788). As the Panthers trailed 1-0 early on Thursday, it marked their sixth comeback win of these playoffs, tying the Rangers for the most among all teams. Gustav Forsling (fourth of playoffs), Anton Lundell (third) and Sam Bennett (fifth) had the Florida goals with Bennett’s on an empty net at 18:08 of the third proving the winner after New York added a goal with 50 seconds remaining. Sergei Bobrovsky improved to 7-2 in his nine career appearances in the conference finals and became the fourth active goaltender to record 40 career playoff wins, joining Marc-Andre Fleury (92), Andrei Vasilevskiy (66) and Jonathan Quick (49). Florida owns an all-time record of 3-1 when leading a best-of-seven series 3-2. There have been four straight one-goal games in the series and we expect another Saturday – ideally we get OT.
