Rangers vs. Panthers NHL Betting Odds

Florida is on its first two-game losing streak since falling April 1 in Toronto and then losing the next night in Montreal. The Rangers were 5-4 overtime road winners on Sunday in Game 3 to take a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals, and when a best-of-seven conference finals/semifinals is tied 1-1, the winner of Game 3 goes on to win the series 77 per cent of the time (59-18). There will not be a sweep in this round for the first time since 2021.

On the updated series line, New York is -175 (was +130 entering Game 3) and Florida +145 (was -155). What’s interesting, though, is that on the exact outcome prop, Florida in seven is a slight +340 favourite. The Panthers are 3-4 all time in a best-of-seven when trailing 2-1. New York is 18-8 when leading by that count. That the East Finals go the full seven games, which I believe will happen, is +125 with six games +150 and five at +350. The over-under is 5.5 games with the over a -500 favourite.

New York netminder Igor Shesterkin has become the new +350 favourite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. Florida counterpart Sergei Bobrovsky is +1800.

New York Rangers

New York followed a 2-1 home OT win in Game 2 last Friday with a 5-4 road OT win on Sunday for a 2-1 series lead. The last team to win three straight playoff games that required overtime was Florida in 2023. No club has ever won four such games. Alex Wennberg was the No. 1 star of Game 3 with the winning goal at 5:35 of OT, his first goal of these playoffs. The Rangers improved to 4-0 in this postseason in overtime, tying the franchise record for wins in a single playoffs set in 2015 (4-1 record). They trailed 1-0 Sunday to post their 34th comeback win of the regular season and playoffs combined, a new league record. Alexis Lafreniere and Barclay Goodrow each had two regulation goals and both are up to six in the postseason. One of Goodrow’s was short-handed, marking New York’s fifth such of these playoffs. That leads the league and is one shy of the team record.

Florida Panthers

Florida was down 4-2 in the third period Sunday but goals from Aleksander Barkov (eighth of playoffs) and Gustav Forsling (third) forced overtime. The Panthers outshot the Rangers 37-23, had more scoring chances (46-20) and had two power play goals – both from Sam Reinhart. It was Reinhart’s 13th multi-goal this season obviously including playoffs, a franchise record. Sergei Bobrovsky simply didn’t play very well in net; he will start tonight. The Panthers are looking to avoid losing three consecutive games within a single postseason for the first time since being swept by the Lightning in the second round of the 2022 playoffs. One bright spot is Florida sitting at 8-for-8 on the penalty kill in the series. It also has at least one power play goal in back-to-back games.
