New York Rangers vs. New York Islanders Prediction, NHL Odds

The New York Rangers will be looking to tally consecutive wins for the first time in five weeks when they visit the New York Islanders on Wednesday night in NHL betting action at UBS Arena.

The Rangers eked out a 4-3 win over the visiting Boston Bruins on Sunday to halt a three-game slide, but have failed to record consecutive victories while going 4-10-2 in 16 outings since December 20. The Islanders maintained their grasp on third place in the Metropolitan Division while halting a two-game slide with Sunday’s 4-0 win in Philadelphia, but have failed to post consecutive road wins while going 5-6-2 over their past 13 away contests.

The Islanders are pegged as -130 home favourites on Wednesday’s NHL odds. The Rangers trail as a +105 underdogs on the NHL moneyline, and the total is listed at 6.5.

Rangers vs. Islanders NHL Betting Odds

The Islanders have snapped a five-game head-to-head losing streak versus the Rangers with shutout wins in each of their previous two meetings this season, capped by a 2-0 home victory on December 27. That marks a massive turnaround for the Isles, who were outscored by a 26-7 combined margin while losing five straight to the Blueshirts.

Overall, the Islanders have fallen to defeat in five of seven home dates with the Rangers and have not tallied consecutive home wins over NYR since 2022. Eight of the past nine dates between these teams have been settled by multi-goal margins, with the losing team scoring two or fewer goals in all nine of those contests, and the OVER/UNDER going 4-4-1 over that stretch.

Despite their struggles to pick up two points, the Rangers have seen the OVER go 9-2-1 in their past 12 games, and have averaged 3.50 goals per game over their past six contests. Conversely, the Islanders have seen the UNDER pay out in three straight, and have seen the total top 6.0 just once in their past six games.

New York Rangers

The start of the Rangers’ most recent woes coincides with a lower body injury that has sidelined Igor Shesterkin since January 5. The club has gone 2-7-1 while their star goaltender has been sidelined, allowing 4.80 goals per game over that stretch.

Journeyman Spencer Martin is expected to make his fourth start between the pipes on Wednesday. The 30-year-old has been lit up for 10 total goals on 85 shots while going 1-2-0 in his first three starts, and has allowed at least three goals in each of his past eight NHL starts since November 2024.

Artemi Panarin snapped a two-game pointless run with an assist in Monday’s overtime victory over the Bruins, and has picked up 11 points over his past nine road dates, and recorded nine total shots in the club’s two recent shutout losses to the Islanders.

New York Islanders

Mathew Barzal led the onslaught in Sunday’s shutout win over the Flyers with a goal and an assist and has now picked up five points over his past four games, and five points over his past three home appearances.

Jean-Grabriel Pageau also did his part with a pair of goals, but has struggled to find the mark on home ice, picking up just two assists over his past 11 appearances.

The real star for the Islanders has been goaltender Ilya Sorokin. The 30-year-old Russian turned aside all 21 shots he faced while recording his second shutout in four starts in Sunday’s victory in Philadelphia.

Sorokin also made 33 saves while leading the Isles to a 5-0 win at MSG in November, ending a seven-game losing streak versus the Rangers during which he allowed 29 total goals while facing over 30 shots on five occasions.
