Home ice hasn’t been an advantage at all for the New Jersey Devils, who look to salvage a win in the finale of a four-game series with the New York Rangers on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers have won each of the first three games of the series, extending the Devils’ overall losing streak to five while keeping pace with Boston in their quest for an East Division playoff spot. The Devils have just four wins in their first 23 games at Prudential Center this season.

Rangers vs. Devils Betting Analysis

The Rangers are overwhelming favourites on the NHL odds because of their recent hot stretch, combined with the Devils’ continued struggles. Sunday marks the final meeting of the season between the division rivals; New York dropped the first two but they’ve won each of the last five, outscoring the Devils 25-7 in that span while winning all five of those games by 3+ goals. The Devils’ 19 home defeats are tied with the Anaheim Ducks for the most in the NHL.

The total for Sunday’s season series finale is set at 5.5, and you shouldn’t be surprised to see plenty of action on the Over. The teams have averaged 6.6 goals through their first seven meetings while combining for 7+ goals in five of those games. Yet, that trend is somewhat out of character for the Rangers when you consider that they’re just 17-25-2 O/U for the season. Five of those overs have come against the Devils, who are 21-22 O/U on the year.

New York Rangers

Given how dominant the Rangers have looked in this string of games against the Devils, bettors might feel inclined to give the Rangers’ puckline at look at +125. And now might be the perfect time to take the plunge: New York is almost completely healthy, playing its best hockey of the season and heavily favoured against a Devils team playing out the string. Each of the Rangers’ previous five victories have come by multiple goals.

New Jersey Devils

Is there any hope for bettors looking to wring some value out of the Devils? Perhaps, if the Rangers decide to give starting goalie Igor Shesterkin (2.28 GAA, .925 SV%) a rest in favour of Alexandar Gregoriev (2.77 GAA, .903 SV%). Still, it’s a big ask for a team that presently has zero players with more than 25 points on the season. The best bet to convert his point prop: rookie Yegor Sharangovich, who co-leads the team with seven points in nine April games.
