The Rangers and Capitals are set for a Metropolitan division matchup on Friday night at Capital One Arena in the nation’s capital.

These teams split their four meetings last season, with New York claiming an 8-1 victory in their most recent clash on April 5 at Madison Square Garden. That lopsided result has the Capitals looking for revenge on home ice.

The Caps are set as -150 favourites on the NHL odds board.

Rangers vs. Capitals NHL Betting Odds

The Rangers are off to a 4-1-0 start and have won four games in a row. The Capitals are 2-1-0 and coming off a 5-3 win over the Penguins in their most recent outing.

Playing at home, oddsmakers are giving a slight edge to the Capitals, who have moneyline odds of -150, while New York is +125 to pull off the modest upset.

On the puck line, Capitals -1.5 is valued at +190, while New York +1.5 is -230. The game total is set at 5.5, with odds juiced to the Over at -130 and odds to +110 on the Under.

At +210, New York’s Pavel Dorofeyev has the shortest odds of any player to score a goal in this game. Dorofeyev potted 37 goals with the Golden Knights last season, and has one goal through five games with the Rangers to start this term.

With odds of +215, Washington’s Alex Tuch has the shortest odds of any Capital to score a goal in this contest. Tuch scored 33 goals with the Sabres last season, and is off to a hot start with three goals in three games to begin his tenure with the Capitals.

New York Rangers

After finishing with an Eastern conference low 77 points last season, the Rangers are looking for a big bounce-back campaign in 2026-27. They are off to a strong start in that effort, as they’ve reeled off four straight wins after dropping the season opener.

The Rangers struggled to score goals on a consistent basis last season. In total, New York ranked 23rd in the NHL by averaging 2.87 goals per game. That number sits at 3.20 goals per game through five games this season, and the offensive ceiling for New York seems to be much higher with Pavel Dorofeyev in the mix.

He potted 37 goals for Las Vegas last year, and brings a sharp-shooting ability to the Rangers that they desperately missed last season.

New York’s defence also got some notable reinforcements in the offseason with Sean Durzi and Marcus Pettersson coming to town. With Igor Shesterkin continuing to thrive in net, the Rangers are hoping that a better D-core in front of Shesterkin makes his life a little bit easier between the pipes.

So far that plan is working, as Shesterkin is 3-1-0 with a 1.76 goals-against average and .926 save percentage to begin the new season.

Washington Capitals

The Capitals just missed the playoffs last season by finishing with 95 points. Looking to improve on that number, Washington went out and got Alex Tuch and Jordan Kyrou in the offseason. Their additions give the Capitals’ forward group plenty of experience and depth. Tuch currently leads the team with three goals.

Earlier this week, Alexander Ovechkin made headlines by announcing that the 2026-27 season would be his last. Ovechkin is the NHL’s all-time goal-scoring leader, and is coming off a 32-goal season last year at the age of 40. He seems to have plenty left in the tank and the Capitals are doing all they can to make Ovechkin’s final season a successful one on the ice.

Goaltender Logan Thompson finished fourth in the NHL with 31 wins last season, and he is off to a strong start with a 2.50 goals-against average and .921 save percentage through two games. He is projected to be the starting netminder for the home team in this one.

NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Rangers vs. Capitals?

The Rangers are riding high with plenty of momentum. New York’s offence looks much-improved from last season, and their defensive core is a bit more reliable. That has put Igor Shesterkin in great spots, and he is off to a fantastic start in net. Ride the momentum with New York and take the plus-money odds with the Rangers on the moneyline.
