New York Rangers vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction, NHL Odds
Vancouver has been struggling on home ice this season, winning just three of 10 games at Rogers Arena. They have their hands full on Tuesday playing host to the Rangers who have won six of seven on the road.
The NHL odds have the Rangers as a slim -114 favourite on the moneyline and the total is set at six goals.
Rangers vs. Canucks NHL Betting Odds
It tends to be a high scoring affair when these teams play each other, with each of their past five meetings hitting the OVER. They split last season’s two-game set with the road team winning both games. Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson led the series with five points (2G, 3A) and Mika Zibanejad led the way for the Rangers with four points (1G, 3A).
Coming off of Sunday’s 2-0 win, New York has moved their record on the OVER/UNDER to 7-8-1, playing the UNDER in three of their past four games. The Rangers are the third-best defensive team in the league, giving up just 2.38 goals per game. They are 8-8 ATS but have only covered in three of their last 10 games.
Vancouver has been playing .500 hockey over the past 10 games, with their OVER/UNDER at 5-4-1, including three OVERs in their past five. Their goals against per game are ranked 20th (3.18), which is pretty good considering their star goalie, Thatcher Demko, has yet to play this season. They would like to get more on the offensive side, though, sitting right in the middle of the NHL ranks at 16th (3.18).
New York Rangers
The Rangers have given up zero goals in back-to-back road games, and backup goalie Jonathan Quick pitched both shutouts. They are coming into Vancouver winning three of their past four games, but all of those wins came against non-playoff teams.
Sunday’s win 2-0 over Seattle opened the four-game Western Conference road trip. Alexis Lafreniere notched his seventh of the season, opening the scoring late in the second period. Defenceman Zac Jones’ first of the season sealed the deal for the Rangers, helping Quick to back-to-back shutouts on a 24-save performance.
Entering the Canadian leg of the road trip, the Rangers will have to continue their winning recipe as two of the teams they will face are in playoff position, while the other is Connor McDavid and the Oilers.
Vancouver Canucks
Tuesday night will be the final of a six-game homestand, where the Canucks have underperformed winning just two of the five so far while giving up five or more goals in each of those losses.
Vancouver fell behind early in their most recent loss on Sunday to Nashville but battled back to make things exciting. Aatu Raty scored his first as a Canuck, tying things up late in the first and Elias Pettersson’s power play goal put them in front at the midway mark of the second. The Preds battled back with a vengeance, potting three straight goals to go up 4-2 headed to the third. After another goal brought the ‘Nucks within one, they pulled the goalie but an empty-net goal sealed a 5-2 final.
After a slow start to the season, Pettersson is starting to find his form again this month. He has six points (4G, 2A) through his past five games, bringing him to 11 on the season.
