The Predators stopped the Jets mild winning streak against them at two games, with that victory on Sunday night. The new storyline of this series is the best home ice regular season record (Jets 32-7-2) faces the best road regular season record (Predators 25-9-7). Overall, the home team in this head-to-head series is 8-3 in the last 11 games, with the over going 5-2 in the last seven games.
Nashville Predators
The Predators looked like they got off to the start they wanted in Game 2, scoring only 32 seconds into the opening frame, but the Jets battled back with two goals 29 seconds apart to take the lead after 20 minutes of play. This has been a problem for the Predators in the postseason. So far in eight playoff games, the Predators have been outscored in the first period 8-4. Nashville’s top line of Ryan Johansen, Viktor Arvidsson, and Filip Forsberg had a big night in Game 2, registering three goals and five assists. Of note, the Predators dominated the faceoff circle in Game 2, winning 61.3 percent of the draws. This is a key stat as they controlled a lot of the play during that game.
Winnipeg Jets
Although the Jets had a great opportunity to return home with a 2-0 series lead, they should be happy about splitting in Nashville. The Jets enter this NHL matchup on a 12-game winning streak on home ice. Ironically, the last time they lost a game on home ice was Feb. 27, against the Nashville Predators (6-5 loss). Mark Scheifele has been red-hot on a personal four game goal streak and has scored eight goals in eight games. He logged 28:11 of ice time in Game 2 and was the center of all Jets offensive opportunities.
Brandon Tanev has been a great example of providing secondary scoring for the Jets. He enters the game on a three-game goal streak. Of note, despite having seven shots on goal in Game 2, Patrik Laine hasn’t scored a goal in the last five games.
