Nashville has been in a similar spot. They won their first two games of the year but have looked like a shell of themselves since. They have lost seven out of their last eight now.
Can they snap out of it here or will Calgary get back on track themselves?
Predators vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds
The Predators are 1-4 in their last five games played against teams in the Western Conference and are an even worse 1-6 in their past seven games played on the road. When it comes to the total, the over has cashed in nine out of their last 13 games when playing against a team with a winning record on the season.
On the other hand, the Flames have won six straight against teams with a winning percentage of less than .400 on the season. They are also 4-1 in their last five against teams in the Central Division and 29-14 over their last 43 games played at home.
Nashville Predators
It isn’t just one thing that’s holding the Predators back during this downturn; they are struggling all over the place. At both end of the ice, it’s been a disaster.
On offense, they are 29th in the league when it comes to goals per game and have been equally bad on the power play, ranking 28th in success rate. Filip Forsberg leads the way with 10 points, but this group is unbelievably unproductive at this point in the year. Only four players have scored more than two goals so far.
On the other end, the Predators have not been good at stopping the puck either. They are allowing 3.5 goals per game and rank toward the bottom of the NHL in this category. Juuse Saros is 2-5-1 with a 3.17 GAA and a .898 save percentage. Saros just allowed six goals on 36 shots in his last outing, which could spell disaster for them if he can’t improve soon.
Calgary Flames
Calgary players have made it clear that they are still working to find their identity as a team. With so much roster turnover in the offseason, that’s understandable. Matthew Tkachuk was traded, Nazem Kadri was picked up in free agency and Jonathan Huberdeau was brought in. All of these moves have shown their potential moving forward but the chemistry will take some time.
Currently, they rank ninth in the league in goals per game and third in shots on net per game. They’re getting a lot of pucks to the net and putting pressure on opposing goaltenders. That could spell trouble for the Preds in this spot.
As for the Flames defense, that is where they lack a little bit. Jacob Markstrom is 4-1-0 on the season with a 2.60 GAA and a .903 save percentage. While the record looks good, the save percentage is not where it needs to be for this team to be a true Cup contender. It’s still early in the year, though.
