The Pens have been surrounded by trade rumours all season and it has affected their play, losing seven of their past 10. Utah has dropped back-to-back games of their own as they return home from a three-game road trip.

The NHL odds have Utah as a slight -150 favourite at home, with the total set at 6 goals. The puck will drop from Vivint Smart Home Arena at 9:30 PM ET.

Penguins vs. Utah NHL Betting Odds

Wednesday will be the final of the two-game season series, in which Utah won their first meeting 6-1 in Pittsburgh back in November. Utah’s Dylan Guenther scored a pair of goals in a three-point game, while Sidney Crosby scored the lone goal for Pittsburgh.

The Penguins’ offence has suffered greatly recently, scoring one goal in four of their past five games and playing the UNDER in each of those games. They are averaging just 2.3 goals per game over their past 10 which is worst in the league. They were the favourite in each of their past three losses, failing to cover the spread in each, dropping them to 24-28 ATS on the year.

Utah’s goal scoring has been an issue all season, averaging 2.8 per game on the season ranking them in the bottom 10 of the league. They have only lost two games of the 26 games that they have scored three or more goals. After playing the spread well all season, they have fallen off recently covering just three times in their past 10 games.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh’s skid hit a new low on Monday night, visiting the last-placed San Jose Sharks and managing to score just one goal for the third straight game. The Sharks opened the scoring in the second period, but the Penguins rallied at the intermission and Sidney Crosby’s 15th of the season tied the game just 24 seconds into the third. San Jose would answer just over three minutes later to go back ahead with the eventual game-winner.

Goalie Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 26 shots in the loss and was named the game’s third star. He has posted a .929 save percentage or better in three of his past four starts. The Pens have been alternating starts between him and Joel Blomqvist, but Nedeljkovic has been outperforming his partner lately.

Wednesday will mark the seventh and final game of the Penguins season-high road trip. They are 2-4 on the trip so far, bringing their road record to 8-14-5 on the year.

Utah Hockey Club

The Hockey Club has a chance to move above .500 tonight sitting at 21-21-7 on the year. They are coming back home after a three-game trip that ended in back-to-back losses and looking to shake the skid.

They most recently played Sunday in Ottawa against a Senators team fighting to get into the playoffs. After a scoreless first period, the Sens got on the board in the second, but Utah would answer just a minute and a half later with a goal from Clayton Keller (18). Two more goals from the Sens in the third would solidify the 3-1 win. Utah outshot their opponents 35-27 and had great opportunities but lack of offence was their downfall once again.

Barret Hayton had a great week offensively but had his three-game point streak snapped on Sunday. He had four goals and six points in the three games prior and was named the NHL’s third star of the week.
