Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Ottawa Senators Prediction, NHL Odds
Nothing has been going right for the Penguins lately, losers of their past three and having trouble getting on the scoresheet more than ever. Despite the struggle in Pittsburgh, the Senators are proving that it could always be much worse. Ottawa is riding a season-high seven-game slide, a stretch that included losses to a few really bad teams.
Tuesday’s NHL schedule is packed with 10 games and a puck drop from Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa is set for 7:00 PM ET. Check out our NHL odds for the Moneyline, OVER/UNDER and all the props.
Penguins vs. Senators NHL Betting Odds
The Senators have had success versus the Penguins this season and have a chance to sweep the three-game season series on Tuesday night. Ottawa has scored 10 goals in two games against the Pens, winning 5-2 in October and most recently 5-4 in overtime in December. The Sens had Pittsburgh’s number last season as well, beating them in two of three matchups.
Pittsburgh’s offence has been a glaring weakness all season, but they have not been in a deeper slump than they are right now. In their past three games, they have managed to score just one goal, getting shut out twice. Over their past seven games, they have scored 10 goals and have been held to a goal or less five times. In those seven games, they had covered the spread twice, the same games that they managed to tuck more than one.
The Senators’ offence has been slightly better than Pittsburgh’s but still nothing to hang their hat on. They have played the UNDER in four of their past six, averaging just 1.8 goals per game in that span. They were a decent bet to cover the spread earlier in the season but have fallen to 30-32 ATS after covering just once in their past eight games.
Pittsburgh Penguins
It was another embarrassing loss for the Penguins Sunday afternoon, getting smacked 4-0 on home ice by the Edmonton Oilers, extending their losing streak to three games. The Oilers scored in the opening minute of the game and never looked back. The Pens managed 41 shots on the net but had no finish and were shut out for the second time over the losing streak.
Pittsburgh has been shooting the puck a ton over their current skid, hitting the net 39 or more times in all three games. Kris Letang scored the team’s lone goal over the past three games.
After a red-hot start to the season, Sidney Crosby has taken some steps back in the later stages of the year. He has just two assists over the team’s last seven games and the Penguins have only won one game in that stretch. When their captain is at his best the teams seem to follow suit.
Ottawa Senators
A struggling Senators team has officially hit rock bottom after their trip through California, dropping games to some bad teams like the San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks, extending their losing streak to seven games.
Their most recent game on Saturday in San Jose saw them lose 2-1 to the Sharks who had lost nine straight before hosting the Sens. The Sharks’ powerplay struck in the first period, but Ottawa answered with a powerplay goal from Tim Stutzle (15) to tie it in the second. The game would stay tied for just five minutes before the Sharks would notch the eventual game-winner on another powerplay goal.
Despite out shooting the Sharks 32-21, Ottawa could not get the timely save they needed from goalie Joonas Korpisalo who would make just 19 saves. Korpisalo’s first season in Ottawa has been terrible, posting a .887 save percentage through 41 games.
If the Sens do not get back on track Tuesday, they may not get another good shot at a win as the upcoming schedule looks a bit daunting. After the home game versus Pittsburgh, they hit the road against a bad Columbus team, before facing four teams in the playoff hunt.
