The Florida Panthers already have stolen home-ice advantage in the Eastern Conference Finals from the New York Rangers and are -115 favourites again on the NHL odds for Game 2 on Friday back at Madison Square Garden.

Panthers vs. Rangers NHL Playoff Betting Odds

Supposedly, having home-ice advantage in the Stanley Cup playoffs is a big deal. Not for Florida, apparently, as it is now 5-1 on the road this postseason following a 3-0 win in Game 1 of the East Finals at the New York Rangers on Wednesday. The Blueshirts won their first four at home in the playoffs but have now dropped two straight.

On the updated series line, Florida is -300 (was -135 entering the opener) and New York +240 (was +115). The favoured exact result is Panthers in six at +320. Them sweeping is +425 and that would be stunning. New York winning the next four is the +1300 longshot. That would also be stunning. The favoured total games is six at +200. On the number of games to go to overtime prop, one is the +135 leader. For number of shutouts, one is the -190 favourite – meaning the books don’t expect another. Two games is +200.

For top goalscorer in the series, Florida’s Carter Verhaeghe and Matthew Tkachuk top the board at +325 after both scored in Game 1. The shortest odds for a Rangers player is Artemi Panarin at +850.

Florida Panthers

Panthers netminder Sergei Bobrovsky isn’t getting much Conn Smythe Trophy love at +1000 and probably deserves more after blanking the Rangers on 24 shots in the 3-0 victory in Game 1 on Wednesday. Bobrovsky has now allowed two goals or fewer in six straight outings. If he remains that good, Florida is winning its first Cup because it is loaded offensively. In a unique statistic, Bobrovsky improved to 8-1 in 10 career playoff appearances against the reigning Presidents’ Trophy winner with a 2.69 goals-against average and .916 save per centage. Matthew Tkachuk (fifth of playoffs), Carter Verhaeghe (seventh) and Sam Bennett (third) had the goals in Game 1 with Bennett’s on an empty net.  Florida improved to 6-1 when scoring first in these playoffs and 15-2 dating to the start of the 2023 postseason. The Panthers are 5-0 this postseason when leading through two periods and were 35-0-3 during the 2023-24 regular season. They have now won seven straight games in the conference finals – which dates all the way to 1996.

New York Rangers

It’s not like the Rangers were dominated as Game 1 was still 1-0 with about four minutes left in regulation. That second Florida goal to essentially clinch was actually an own goal from Alexis Lafreniere, who tipped in a Panthers pass in front of the net past Igor Shesterkin. It was one of several self-inflicted mistakes the Rangers made as they also had 12 giveaways to the Panthers’ two. But New York has to put more than 24 shots on goal. It was also out-hit 38-27 and lost in the faceoff circle. On the bright side, the Rangers killed off all three Florida power plays and have now killed off 30 of the past 32 penalties they’ve taken dating to Game 3 of the first round against Washington. This is the first time these playoffs that the Blueshirts trail a series. I expect a much better Game 2 effort.
