This could be a playoff preview, although probably not before the Western Conference Finals. Dallas sits third in the Central Division and probably will open the post-season against the Colorado Avalanche, who sit second in the Central. The Avs could catch St. Louis for the division title, but the Stars are probably too far back. Edmonton sits second in the Pacific.

Oilers vs. Stars Betting Analysis

These teams have split two meetings, each winning on the road back in the 2019 portion of the schedule. The Oilers prevailed 2-1 in Dallas on Dec. 16, scoring both goals in the first period. Connor McDavid leads Edmonton with five points in the season series, all assists. Leon Draisaitl has two goals and an assist. Jujhar Khaira also has two goals. Mikko Koskinen was in net for both, allowing a total of six goals on 71 shots.

Tyler Seguin leads Dallas with four points (2G, 2A) in the season series and is plus-3. Ben Bishop played in both but got a decision, a loss, in just one. Anton Khudobin got the win in relief of Bishop on Nov. 16 in Edmonton.

The favorite is 6-2 in the past eight meetings. The under is 4-1 in the previous five.

Edmonton Oilers

This is second-to last back-to-back scenario of the season for Edmonton. On March 15 it visits Philadelphia and then is at the Washington Capitals the next night. The Oilers are 6-4 in their past 10 in the second of a B2B, having a five-game winning streak in those snapped last Wednesday in a 3-0 loss in Las Vegas. With Smith starting Monday in Nashville, it should be Koskinen in net here. He has allowed seven goals while losing his last two starts. The Finn is 16-13-2 overall with a 2.89 GAA and .911 SV this season.

This will be a homecoming for defenceman Caleb Jones, who is from Arlington, Texas. His father is former NBA player Popeye Jones, who played for the Raptors from 1996-98. Caleb’s brother Seth is an excellent defenceman for Columbus but currently injured.

Dallas Stars

The Stars have been off since a 4-3 shootout loss in St. Louis on Saturday – Dallas’ second straight defeat by that exact score. Ryan O’Reilly scored the only goal in the shootout. The Stars had tied it with just 19 seconds left on John Klingberg’s fifth goal of the year. It was the blueliner’s third straight game with a point. Seguin (17^th) and Denis Gurianov (20) also found the net. Gurianov is having a solid rookie season as his 20 goals are a team best, although the No. 12 overall pick in the 2015 draft has just nine assists.

Khudobin started vs. the Blues so it likely will be Bishop here. He’s 21-14-4 with a 2.49 GAA and .923 SV. Led by that duo, the Stars allow just 2.54 goals per game, No. 2 in the NHL behind Boston (2.42). Blueliner Stephen Johns remains day-to-day. He hasn’t played since Feb. 23 due to an upper-body injury.
