After being embarrassed 7-1 in Pittsburgh Saturday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs travel to Raleigh, North Carolina to face their ex-goaltender and the undefeated Hurricanes. The Hurricanes are -117 favourites to win on the NHL odds with a total of 6.0.

The last time these teams met, history was made. After both Carolina goalies were forced to leave the game with injuries, the Hurricanes had to dress Toronto’s Zamboni driver, David Ayres, as their emergency backup. Ayres made six saves to secure the win for Carolina, embarrassing the Leafs in their own barn.

About 82 per cent of the public are picking Carolina to extend their current win streak and hand Toronto their fourth straight loss. In the past 10 meetings, Toronto has won six, outscoring the Canes by only six.

Bettors are torn on the over/under at 6.0. The last two games were high scoring, playing the over at 6.5. The Canes offence has been dynamite early on, averaging 4.5 goals per game, which is good for third in the league. The Leafs are fresh off a pair of games that played the over, but only because they were outscored 12-4.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Leafs Nation is a scary place to be right now, as the team is riding a three-game losing streak and help is not on the way. Every aspect of Toronto’s game seems to be falling apart. The power-play continues to struggle, their superstars have been anything but, and their starting goalie gave up five goals in his last outing.

Mitch Marner was struggling without his main man, Auston Matthews, for the first few games of the season. Even with Matthews back in the lineup, the pair has not registered a point in their first three games together.

William Nylander has undoubtedly been the best Leaf so far, notching seven points in six games.

Sometimes it is better for a team to struggle on the road rather than in front of their own fans, so luckily for the Buds, they do not play at home until next week.

Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina has been red hot out of the gate to open the season, winning all of their four games to date. Another two points tonight would move them into first place in the Metropolitan Division.

Andrei Svechnikov has been a beast early on, picking up seven points in four games. Svechnikov had a three-game goal streak snapped over the weekend, but still managed to notch two assists in the 5-1 win.

Frederik Andersen will face his old team for the first time since leaving the Leafs in free agency this past summer. Andersen has been solid in Carolina thus far, posting a 1.75 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage. Expect Andersen to seek vengeance on his old club after facing a lot of criticism in his time there.
