NHL: Philadelphia Flyers at Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs look to extend their longest win streak of the season to five games when they close out a home-and-home series with the faltering Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Center.

The Leafs skated to a 3-2 overtime win over the Flyers at Scotiabank Arena on Sunday night, and will now kick off the second half of their NHL campaign sporting a four-point lead atop the Atlantic Division standings. With Sunday’s defeat, the Flyers have now lost seven of 10 but remain just two points back of the surprising Montreal Canadiens in the hunt for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference.

The Leafs open this week’s two-game road trip perched as slim -125 favourites on the Tuesday NHL odds. The Flyers lag as +105 underdogs and the total is listed at 6.0.

Maple Leafs vs. Flyers NHL Betting Odds

The Maple Leafs have dominated in recent dates with the Flyers, winning nine of their past 10 meetings, with the lone exception being a 4-2 Flyers victory in Philadelphia last March. Toronto has limited the Flyers to just 2.30 goals per game over that stretch, with six of their nine recent head-to-head wins coming by multi-goal margins.

With the Leafs averaging 4.50 goals per game, the OVER has paid in seven of their past nine matchups. Toronto has also won four straight on the road, scoring at least five goals three times during that run, but continues to rank a middling 14th in the league in goals scored on the road this season.

In addition to picking up just two wins during a six-game road trip over the Holidays, the Flyers have also struggled at home of late, failing to record consecutive wins while going 4-5-1 in their past 10 and have been lit up for 4.14 goals per game over their past seven at Wells Fargo Center.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Leafs needed to overcome an early deficit to force overtime on Sunday night, with Morgan Rielly potting the gamer winner in overtime. For Reilly, the goal snapped a seven-game pointless streak and marked his first goal since November 5. Matthew Knies remained hot, following up on his career-best three-goal, two-assist performance in Saturday’s 6-4 win over Boston with his 15th goal of the season. However, the promising young forward has tallied just one goal and no helpers in his past seven road appearances.

Auston Matthews has not missed a beat since returning from a nagging upper body injury that sidelined him just before Christmas. Matthews contributed two assists on Sunday night and has tallied five points in two January appearances, and leads all shooters as a +110 bet on the Tuesday anytime scorer odds.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers look to rebound after scoring just four total goals while losing the final two games on their recent six-game road trip. However, it proved to be a productive weekend for forward Tyson Foerster, who has potted goals in each of the past two games and has now tallied six markers and nine points over his past nine outings. Things have not quite as well for prized rookie Matvei Michkov. The 20-year-old Russian was held for the score sheet for a third straight game on Sunday night and has posted just two total points over his past 10 games.

Reports suggest Ivan Fedotov will make a second straight start between the pipes on Tuesday night. The towering 28-year-old stopped 22 of 25 shots in Sunday’s loss in Toronto and has produced mixed results at home, earning the win in just two of five starts and lasting just 20 minutes in his last appearances, getting the hook after allowing two goals on seven shots in a 7-4 loss to Florida on December 5.
