The Maple Leafs rebounded from Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the New York Rangers with arguably their best performance of the season on Monday night, as they skated to a decisive 5-2 win over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning, and have now claimed victory by multi-goal margins in four of their past five contests. The Blue Jackets are coming off a 3-1 loss to the visiting Minnesota Wild but have avoided consecutive defeats during a 2-3-0 start to the campaign.

The Leafs have vaulted to strong -250 road favourites on the Tuesday NHL odds and are also a short +100 bet to earn the win by multiple goals. The Blue Jackets lag as +200 underdogs, while the total sits at 6.5.

Maple Leafs vs. Blue Jackets NHL Betting Odds

Neither of these teams have dominated in recent head-to-head action, with each club picking up five wins over their past 10 meetings. The Blue Jackets edge out the Leafs in last year’s season series, taking two of three, with both of those victories coming by a 6-5 score, but have only claimed victory in two of their past seven home dates with the Buds. While the Maple Leafs have closed to within one point of first-place Florida, they will need to improve on their middling record when playing a second game on consecutive nights if they are to claim the division lead. The Leafs have won just three of six when playing on back-to-back nights and have also potted just 10 total goals while losing three of their past four regular season road games.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs’ effort in Monday’s win over the Lightning has been heralded as their most complete 60-minute performance in recent memory. With Anthony Stolarz turning in another stellar night in the crease, the Leafs were able to withstand the Lightning’s steady play early on before Toronto shooters exploded for four goals in 13 minutes to drive that forced Tampa Bay to give netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy the hook. The Leafs have now averaged four goals per game during a 4-1-0 run and have been energized by the recent performances from Auston Matthews and William Nylander. Matthews has rebounded from a slow start with goals in each of the past three games and five points overall while Nylander has turned in multi-point efforts in each of the club’s past three wins, capped by a two-goal, three-point outing on Monday night.

Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets have work to do to bounce back from their roughest outing of the season in Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Minnesota. Columbus had no response to Wild onslaughts in the first and third period, and while they have managed to eke out wins in two of four outings, they have managed to generate more than 25 shots on goal just once over that stretch. One exception has been forward Yegor Chinakhov, who has shown flashes of the talent that made him Columbus’ first-round pick in 2020 while opening the season on a five-game points streak including goals in each of the past two games. However, the Blue Jackets will need more than just Chinakhov and lucky bounces to contend with a Leafs squad that has looked steady at both ends of the ice.
