Utah Mammoth vs. Vegas Golden Knights Game 2 Prediction, NHL Playoff Odds
The Vegas Golden Knights are set to host the Utah Mammoth in Game 2 of their Stanley Cup playoff matchup on Tuesday night at T-Mobile Arena.
Vegas took a 1-0 series lead in Game 1 on Sunday thanks to a 4-2 win. The Golden Knights trailed by scores of 1-0 after the first period and 2-1 after the second period, but a three-goal third period propelled Vegas to victory.
A pivotal Game 2 awaits, and it should be a tremendous matchup to watch unfold.
Mammoth vs. Golden Knights NHL Betting Odds
Holding a 1-0 series lead playing on home ice, it’s not all too surprising to see the Golden Knights favoured on the NHL odds in this matchup. Vegas enters Game 2 with odds of -155 on the moneyline, while Utah has odds of +130 to even up the series.
Both teams enter this matchup well below the .500-mark on the puckline this season. Specifically, Utah is 36-47-0 against the spread this season while Vegas is 35-48-0. In this matchup, Utah +1.5 carries odds of -192 while Vegas -1.5 is listed at +160. The total is set at 6.5 with plus-money odds of +114 to the over and odds of -135 to the under. The over is 42-39-2 for the Mammoth this season and 39-39-5 for the Golden Knights.
With odds of +175, Vegas’ Pavel Dorofeyev has the shortest odds of any player to score a goal in this game. Dorofeyev led the Golden Knights with 37 goals throughout the course of the regular season. On the other side, Dylan Guenther has the shortest odds of any Utah player to score a goal. His goal-scoring odds are listed at +195. Guenther led the Mammoth with 40 goals in the regular season, giving him the first 40-goal season of his career. He fired four shots on goal in Game 1 but did not find the back of the net.
Utah Mammoth
The Mammoth are in the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since arriving in Salt Lake City. They earned a postseason berth by recording 92 points on the season, which put them in the top wild card spot in the Western Conference.
The Mammoth led the Golden Knights 2-1 after two periods in Game 1, but they faltered down the stretch and were out-scored 3-0 in the final frame. Logan Cooley opened the scoring late in the first period and Kevin Stenlund scored the second goal for Utah in the second period. The Mammoth out-shot Vegas 33-31, but couldn’t get the timely goal past Carter Hart down the stretch. Looking to avoid an 0-2 hole, look for Utah to come out firing.
Vegas Golden Knights
The Golden Knights shocked the hockey world when they made the move to fire head coach Bruce Cassidy and hire John Tortorella. Cassidy won a Stanley Cup with Vegas back in 2022-23, but it wasn’t enough to keep him around for this postseason.
As controversial as it was, the move has paid off so far. Tortorella led the Golden Knights to a 7-0-1 record in their final eight regular season games to clinch the top spot in the Pacific Division.
Carter Hart has taken a huge step forward with Tortorella at the helm, as he’s gone 7-0-1 with a .935 save percentage since the coaching change. He was sharp in the series-opener, as he stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced. He will most likely be between the pipes again for Game 2.
NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Mammoth vs. Golden Knights Game 2?
The argument can be made that the Mammoth were the better team for over two periods in Game 1. It wasn’t enough to find the win column, but Utah should still have plenty of confidence entering this matchup. Their young core of players weren’t phased by the postseason pressure, and I expect them to put forth another strong effort in Game 2. It’s also worth mentioning that Utah won two of the three regular season meetings between these teams and out-scored Vegas 10-5 in those meetings. I expect Utah to win this Game 2 matchup by a score of 2-1.
