Mammoth vs. Canadiens NHL Odds, Prediction and Picks: Habs Try to Bounce Back After Winnipeg Stunner
After an embarrassing home loss on Tuesday night, the Montreal Canadiens will look to bounce back on Thursday as they host the Utah Mammoth.
The Habs had 4-0 lead over the Winnipeg Jets (who had been on a 9-game skid) with less than three minutes left in the game, but an absolutely horrible stretch saw them give up four and lose 5-4 in overtime.
Their opponents on Thursday have been solid this season, sitting second place in a tough Central Division with a 10-6 record. Amid a season-long six-game road trip, they sit at 2-1 after a win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Tuesday.
The NHL Odds have the Mammoth as a slight -125 favourite on the road, with the OVER/UNDER set at 6.5 goals. Puck drop is set for 7:00 pm EST at The Bell Centre.
Mammoth vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds
Since becoming the Mammoth in 2024, they have played the historic Canadiens four times. Montreal has won each of the past three meetings, while the Mammoth won their first-ever matchup in overtime. The past three head-to-heads have all hit the OVER, and the Canadiens are a perfect 4-0 against the spread in their history with Utah.
Utah’s offence is a top-10 force in the league, potting 3.56 goals per game and has scored three or more in all three on their current road trip. The Mammoth have hit the OVER in seven of their past 10; their defensive stats are not amazing, sitting in the bottom half of the league, giving up 3.38 goals per game.
The OVER has hit in three straight games for the Canadiens, as they have scored 14 goals over the past three games. Their OVER/UNDER record is 10-5 on the campaign, giving up 3.13 goals per game and scoring 3.33 at the other end. They failed to cover the spread in back-to-back games, slipping to a 6-9 record in that column.
Utah Mammoth
The league’s second-best power play propelled the Mammoth to a 3-2 win over the Maple Leafs on Tuesday night. Dylan Guenther (sixth) put Utah up 1-0 with a goal on the man advantage just before the end of the first. After a Leafs goal, an Andrew Peeke tally put the Mammoth up 2-1 heading into the third. Toronto tied it again in the third, but another power-play marker from Nick Schmaltz (eighth) sealed the 3-2 victory.
Captain Clayton Keller picked up three assists in the game, extending his point streak to three games, in which he has six apples. The 28-year-old is on pace to shatter his career-high of 90 points, eyeing a season total of 110 points.
Despite their position in the Central Division, the Mammoth have been very inconsistent this season. After a 6-2 start to the season, the team has been playing .500 hockey over the past eight games. In this rough patch, they have not won back-to-back games.
Montreal Canadiens
What looked like a sure win for the Canadiens on Tuesday was quickly taken away from them, as the Winnipeg Jets erased their 4-0 lead in the final 2:40 of regulation, before taking the 5-4 win in overtime. The loss snapped a five-game heater for the Habs, rubbing salt in the wound.
Owen Beck potted his first of the season to open the scoring; Josh Anderson followed that up with a beauty for his seventh of the season, and a pair of power-play goals from Cole Caufield should have been enough to get the job done.
Jacob Fowler was absolutely lights out for the first 57 minutes of the game, making incredible stops all night, eyeing up his third shutout of the season. The rookie netminder stormed off the ice after the overtime loss, stopping 42 of 47 shots.
Montreal’s home record of 4-2-2 is still solid as they wrap up a three-game homestand versus Utah. Being without captain Nick Suzuki has given the team depth a chance to prove themselves, the Habs are 5-0-1 in his absence. Suzuki should be back in the lineup within a week.
