Seattle battled hard on home ice in Game 6, winning 6-3 to keep their season alive. The series now shifts back to Dallas for Game 7, with the winner set to face the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Final.
The Stars are -199 favourites to win on the NHL odds and the total is 6.0 goals. Puck drop from American Airlines Center is set for 8 p.m. ET.
Kraken vs. Stars NHL Betting Odds
Game 6 played the Over once again, just like these teams have done all season, making it nine games in a row to go that way. Four of the six games in the playoff series so far have featured a total of nine goals as both teams have had trouble defensively along with inconsistent goaltending. Early bettors are taking the Over for Game 7 as well, with 74 per cent of bets sticking with the status quo.
Home ice has not been much of an advantage for any team throughout this year’s playoffs but in the past five games of this second-round matchup, the home team has won four. Seattle knocked out the Colorado Avalanche in a seventh game in Round 1, making them 1-0 all-time in a winner take all situation. The Kraken find themselves in the same position as they did versus the reigning cup champs, putting pressure on the favoured home team to put the series away. Meanwhile, the Stars are 3-5 all-time in Game 7’s. Bettors are siding with the underdogs on Monday night, with the Kraken receiving 56 per cent of bets.
Seattle Kraken
The Kraken came out flying in Game 6, playing at a pace the Stars could not match. Yanni Gourde (4th of the playoffs) opened the scoring for Seattle with his third goal of the series. After a quick response from the Stars, Jordan Eberle scored on the power play to put his team back on top after one period. Seattle opened the second period the same way with goals from Eeli Tolvanen (3rd) and rookie Tye Kartye (3rd) giving them a solid 4-1 lead. Fellow rookie Matty Beniers (3rd) scored in the third and Eberle (6) threw in his second of the game in the empty net.
Eberle (2G, 1A) and Tolvanen (1G, 2A) each finished the game with three points, while Gourde and Beniers had a goal and assist each. Philipp Grubauer stopped 20 of 23 shots in the game, one of his best performances of the second round.
In the franchise’s first-ever postseason appearance, the team has been very impressive playing in two Game 7’s. They have stuck with their identity of being a deep team and 18 different players have scored for the team so far this postseason.
Dallas Stars
After back-to-back victories and a chance to end the series, Dallas could not match the intensity of their opponents in Game 6. Mason Marchment (4th) scored his second of the series in the first period to tie things at one goal apiece. It was the closest the Stars got in this one as they then give up three straight goals before the five-minute mark of the second, chasing goalie Jake Oettinger for the second time in this series.
Joe Pavelski tipped in his eighth of the series on the power play in the second period, knocking in his 72nd career playoff goal. He is now tied with Alex Ovechkin for the most postseason tallies among active players.
Joel Kiviranta scored his first of the playoffs, the lone goal for Dallas in the third period. The Stars had a few chances to score in the final frame, missing by just inches and hitting the post twice.
Head Coach Pete DeBoer is no stranger to Game 7 situations, boasting a perfect 6-0 record when it matters most. In his first season with the Stars after coaching in the league for 16 seasons, he and his team know what it will take Monday night. Experience is definitely on Dallas’ side, as Pavelski, Ryan Suter, Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn have all been in this situation throughout their careers.
