Seattle Kraken vs. Winnipeg Jets Prediction, NHL Odds

The Winnipeg Jets are flying to the top of the NHL standings, stringing together five straight wins before hosting the Seattle Kraken on Thursday night.

Only one other team has been hotter than the Jets so far, and a win Thursday would have them tied for first in the NHL.

Seattle has lost four of their past five games, with their only win needing extra time. Their record is sitting at 3-2-2, which is still good enough for second in the Pacific Division.

The NHL odds have the Jets as -220 favourites at home, with the total set at 5.5 goals. Puck drop at Canada Life Centre is set for 8 p.m. ET.

Kraken vs. Jets NHL Betting Odds

This will be the 13th time in NHL history that Seattle will face off against Winnipeg since joining the league in 2021. The Jets have dominated the Kraken throughout their short history, taking the win in 10 of their 12 meetings all-time. Winnipeg swept their three-game series last season, but each contest was decided by a goal, two of which needed overtime.

Seattle has been the underdog in six of their seven games so far this season, opening as the favourite in Game 1 and not again. Before their current two-game skid, they were keeping games close and started the year with five straight covering the spread, but are now 5-2 on the campaign. The Kraken offence has struggled in the past two games, scoring a combined three goals. They are 10th-last in scoring so far this year at 2.71 per game, down from 2.99 last season.

The Jets’ five-game heater saw them cover the spread three times, getting the record ATS to 3-3 so far. They have only given up 13 total goals-against in six games, tying them for the lowest in the league. Our NHL futures board has Winnipeg as the third-favourite to win the Central Division at +475 despite finishing first in the league last season. They are also a long shot to repeat as the Presidents’ Trophy winners at +1600. Connor Hellebuyck has slipped down to the second-favourite for the Vezina (+350) this season, passed by Igor Shesterkin and his hot start.

Seattle Kraken

The Kraken can see the light at the end of the tunnel, as they wrap up a long six-game road trip on Thursday in Winnipeg. After two wins at home to start the season, Seattle hit the road for a brutal 11-day road trip featuring six games, where they have managed only a single win.

Their most recent loss came Tuesday night in Washington versus the Capitals, where the Kraken opted to go with goalie Matt Murray, giving him his first start with his new team and just his third since 2022. Murray got very little support from the team in front of him, as the Kraken got outshot 34-19 and were held off the scoresheet until early in the third period. Jaden Schwartz scored his second of the campaign, giving the Kraken a chance to try with the net empty, which the Capitals took advantage of for the 4-1 final.

Leading goal scorer Jared McCann has missed Seattle’s past two games with an injury and is still listed as day-to-day.

Winnipeg Jets

Coming off their best regular season in history, the Jets are looking to follow that up this season, posting an incredible 5-1 record so far. Their fifth victory in a row came on Monday night in a 2-1 win over an ice-cold Calgary Flames team. Winnipeg was down 1-0 headed into the third period, but an early power play gave them a chance to even things up. Hometown hero Jonathan Toews scores his first goal as a Jet and his first goal since April of 2023 to tie the game.

Mark Scheifele’s league-leading seventh goal of the season won the game for the Jets, with just under five minutes to go.

With Hellebuyck in net and Winnipeg’s defence-first mentality, the Jets have kept their opponents to two goals or less in each of their past five games.

Scheifele is on a mission to prove he’s more than a point-per-game player and possibly work his way onto the Canadian Olympic team. With seven goals and 10 points through just six games, he’s on pace to blow past his career high of 87 points set last year.
