Seattle Kraken vs. Montreal Canadiens Prediction, NHL Odds

After back-to-back wins on the road, the Montreal Canadiens will host the Seattle Kraken in their home opener on Tuesday night.

The Habs’ season-opening road trip was a success, as they sat through the opening ceremonies in three different cities and played the spoiler in their most recent two games.

Seattle is off to a great start of their own on the West Coast, going a perfect 2-0 on home ice, giving up just a single goal in each game.

The NHL odds have the Canadiens as the -160 favourite, with the total set at an even six goals. The iconic opening ceremony from the Bell Centre in Montreal is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

Kraken vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds

The Kraken filled the Canadiens’ net last season, scoring 13 goals in just two contests. They beat the Habs 8-2 and 5-4, getting payback after being swept the season before. Defenceman Brandon Montour led the way for Seattle, scoring a ridiculous five goals and three assists for eight points in the two-game set.

Since the Kraken joined the league in 2021, their matchups against Montreal have been high-scoring, resulting in just two of their eight games playing the UNDER. Seattle is leading the all-time series 5-3 as they open a new chapter on Tuesday night.

Seattle has been locking things down defensively to kick off the season, holding the Anaheim Ducks and Vegas Golden Knights to just one goal apiece in their opening week of the season. Their 2-0 record matches their perfect record against the spread, and they have yet to hit the OVER. Last season, the Kraken finished with 76 points through 82 games. With key young players expected to take a step forward this season, can they exceed 80.5 points as set on our NHL futures board?

Montreal is off to a solid start this season, winning two of its three games. They have covered the spread just once while going 1-1-1 on the OVER/UNDER. The Atlantic Division is shaping up to be the toughest in hockey, which gives the Canadiens a chance to lead the way. Oddsmakers gave them the fifth-best odds to win the division at +1000. They also see the Habs as a borderline playoff team, setting their odds to make the playoffs at -120.

Seattle Kraken

After kicking the season off with a win over the Anaheim Ducks, Seattle had a big test on Saturday night, hosting the Vegas Golden Knights. The game was scoreless after the first period, before Matty Beniers scored his first goal of the season on the power play to give the Kraken the lead. The Golden Knights scored on a power play of their own in the third period to knot things up and send the game to overtime.

With only 3.8 seconds left in overtime, Jared McCann stuffed home a rebound to win the game for Seattle and upset Vegas. The goal was McCann’s second of the season and the 400th point of his NHL career.

Kraken netminder Joey Daccord stood tall in the crease for the second straight game, stopping 26 of 27 shots on the night. So far this season, he has stopped 61 of 63 shots for a .968 save percentage.

The 22-year-old Beniers is looking to have a big season and is off to a good start with three points to start the campaign. He was the rookie of the year back in 2023, but has not been able to exceed his 57-point total since.

Montreal Canadiens

Montreal has now won back-to-back games after taking down the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in a very intense match on Saturday night. Kaiden Guhle scored the game-winner with just 15.7 seconds left in regulation to secure the win, pushing the Habs to 2-1 on the season.

New addition Zack Bolduc has been on fire since joining his hometown team this season, scoring in all three games and adding an assist. The 22-year-old from Trois-Riviere, Quebec, has been playing on the top power play unit and is looking to set new career highs across the board this season.

The big headline in the hockey world on Monday was the Canadiens getting stud defenceman Lane Hutson signed to a new eight-year contract extension. After a huge 66-point rookie campaign, the 21-year-old is off to a slow start offensively with just a lone assist, but with the contract out of the way, his breakout is imminent.

The off-season seemed extremely long for Canadiens fans this season, after some big moves over the summer. The Bell Centre will be electrifying on Tuesday night as the Habs will take to home ice for the first time this season.
