Los Angeles Kings vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction, NHL Odds
These teams are at opposite ends of the Pacific Division standings, with the Kings sitting in second place and the Canucks in second last, trailing by 10 points.
Vancouver is returning to home ice after a disappointing 2-3 Eastern Conference road trip, while Los Angeles is in the midst of a west coast road trip where they are currently 1-1.
Tonight’s odds are essentially a pick ‘em, but the Kings are a slight -119 favourite to win on tonight’s NHL odds with the total set at 6.5.
Kings vs. Canucks NHL Betting Odds
Los Angeles and Vancouver met only three times during last year’s season series, with the Canucks taking two wins in the set. The Canucks shut out LA 4-0 in the first game, but their next two meetings both needed extra time. Vancouver would cover the spread twice in the tight series, giving them a 4-2 record ATS in their past six meetings with the Kings. They have played the Under in four consecutive head-to-heads never combining for more than five goals over that stretch.
The Kings are coming into tonight, winning five of their past six games, covering the spread in three of those matchups to bring their record ATS to 11-8 on the season. They have allowed only one goal or less in three of their past five matchups playing the Under 3-2 and putting their record to 11-6-2 on the total. The Kings’ offence has been surprisingly good this season, considering their lack of star power up front, staying in the top half of NHL scoring averaging 3.33 goals per game.
Canucks games have been high scoring all season going 12-5 to the Over on the total so far this season. They hit the Over in four of their past five and seven of their past 10. Their terrible defence and goaltending have dropped them to 30th in the league in goals against, averaging 4.06 per game, while their offence is just outside the league’s top 10 scoring 3.41 goals per game.
They covered the spread in their most recent 5-4 win over Buffalo to continue the trend of trading wins and losses against the spread that has been consistent over the past nine games.
Los Angeles Kings
After having their four-game win streak come to an end in a wild 6-5 loss to the Calgary Flames on Monday, the Kings bounced back with a 3-1 over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday.
Trevor Moore lead the way for the Kings, scoring his first career hat trick while Cal Peterson made 22 stops in net to shut down the high-powered Oilers.
Peterson has now won back-to-back starts and is making his case for the starting job in net over veteran Jonathan Quick. Both netminders have a save percentage below .900 and goals against average above three, but Peterson’s 5-2 record is a bit more impressive than Quick’s 6-5-2. Expect the tandem to continue splitting starts until they figure out who the top dog is.
Team depth has led to team success so far throughout the start of the season for LA, with nine players with 10 or more points through 19 games. Gabriel Vilardi is leading the team with 10 goals and Kevin Fiala leads in points with 18 (6G, 12A).
Vancouver Canucks
Vancouver ended their five-game road trip on a good note, snapping a three-game skid with a 5-4 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.
Bo Horvat picked up a goal and two assists in the win extending his team lead in points to 20 (14G, 6A) and Elias Pettersson had a goal and an assist after being held off the score sheet in back-to-back games. Spencer Martin made 28 saves, improving his record to 4-1-1 on the season.
Martin and Thatcher Demko have been trading starts over the past 10 games and Martin has drastically outplayed Demko over that stretch. Demko is 0-4 so far in November and has allowed at least three goals in every one of his starts this season.
Forward Brock Boeser is still looking for his first goal of the season after having wrist surgery during the offseason. He is on a five-game point streak with an assist in each game in November, but the lack of scoring has people wondering about that wrist.
