Dylan Larkin is off to a strong start for the Detroit Red Wings with seven points, but he's going to need a lot more help against the Jets on Friday.

The Red Wings have had a rough start to the season and are searching for only their second regulation win of the year. They’ll try to break through against a Jets team just starting a massive road trip.

Jets vs Red Wings Betting Analysis

This is the first road game since Oct. 11 (at Nashville) for the Winnipeg Jets. They are 1-2-0 in three starts on the road. The Red Wings are winless on home ice this year, going 0-2-1 in three games as well. The two teams have split the last eight games going back four years. The Jets are 2-2 in their last four games in the Motor City. Head-to-head the over is an impressive 7-3 in the last 10 games played in the state.

Winnipeg Jets

The Jets completed their six game home stand with a disappointing 4-2 decision to the Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. It was a flat effort for a team that looked tired but officially took nine out of a possible 12 points on the completed home stand. They won’t return to the MTS Centre until Nov. 9 (Colorado). Now, perhaps the toughest part of their schedule starts, as far as travel is concerned. Friday night they face the Red Wings in Detroit, followed by a Saturday night game in Toronto. From there it’s off to Finland for back-to-back games against the Florida Panthers. First things first, the Red Wings on Friday night. The Jets are hoping Nik Ehlers can continue his strong play from the game on Wednesday night. The young winger finally scored his first goal of the season and had a team high eight shots on goal in the loss to Toronto. Expect backup Laurent Brossoit to start this game against the Red Wings with Connor Hellebuyck to play against the Leafs on Saturday. Brossoit is 2-0 in two games this season.

Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings should be well rested and waiting for the Jets on Friday. They last played on Monday evening (3-1 loss to Carolina) and perhaps got a chance to re-boot after a terrible start to the season. Through nine games this season, the Wings are 1-6-2 and maybe Thomas Vanek said it best when he said, “Nobody is happy, nobody is having fun.” The Wings can’t be happy about owning the leagues worse goal differential at minus-19. They have had a difficult time putting the puck in the net. In six of the nine games played the Red Wings have scored two goals or less. A couple of positives have been Dylan Larkin with four goals and three assists, and also rookie defenceman Dennis Cholowski with two goals and three assists in his first seven NHL games. The 20 year-old is a 2016 first round pick of the Red Wings, and is proving to be a valuable asset early in his career.

On the other hand, there are a lot of issues. Justin Abdelkader and Frans Nielsen haven’t scored a goal yet, while Anthony Mantha, Darren Helm and Gustav Nyquist have one goal each. Each of the five players mentioned make up five of the nine top forwards on the team. There is some talk that Defenceman Mike Green might be available Friday for the first time this season. Green has been battling a virus that has kept him out of the lineup since the pre-season.
