Winnipeg Jets vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds

This all-Canadian matchup will headline this weeks Wednesday hockey schedule in the NHL. The Oilers continue to chase down the Knights in the Pacific division. Meanwhile the Jets hope to maintain their Wildcard status in the Western Conference.

Jets vs. Oilers Betting Analysis

The two teams have split the two previous games with the Jets winning 1-0 back on October 20 in Winnipeg. Back in February, the Oilers returned the favour with a 3-2 win in a late-night Hockey Night in Canada broadcast.

The Jets have had some decent success against the Oilers over the past three years. Winnipeg is 6-2 in the last eight games against Edmonton. The Jets are 12-6 versus Pacific division teams this season, while the Oilers are 9-8-2 against the Central.

Of note, the under is 6-2 in the last eight games played in the Alberta capital.

Winnipeg Jets

The Jets are coming off a three-game home series sweep of their opponents knocking off the Sabres, Golden Knights and Coyotes.

On Monday, the Jets gave up the first two goals against the Coyotes only to score the next four to knock them off 4-2. Nikolaj Ehlers scored a goal and added an assist in the win. Cody Eakin picked a good time to score his first goal as a Jet. His third period marker was the game-winner. The team’s second line of Eakin, Ehlers and Patrik Laine combined for two goals and four assists.

The club was happy to welcome back Adam Lowry to the lineup after missing 20 games with an upper-body injury. He had an impact leading the team with four hits and also got into a fight.

Now they start a three-game road trip through Western Canada against two teams that are currently in a playoff spot and one team in the race. The team hopes to continue its strong defensive play. In the last five games the team has registered two shutouts and only allowed six goals.

Of note, Blake Wheeler has collected nine assists over the last 10 games for Winnipeg.

Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers are 5-3-2 in their last 10 games coming off a 3-2 overtime loss over the Golden Knights. With the loss the Oilers are now three points behind the Knights for first place in the Pacific division.

On Tuesday the team was badly outplayed by the Knights, outshot 48-24. Goaltender Mikko Koskinen stopped 45-of-48 (.938) and was the game’s first star in the loss. In his last four starts he has allowed eight goals sharing the net with veteran Mike Smith. The two goaltenders have each appeared in 38 games.

Superstar Centre Connor McDavid missed Tuesday’s game with an illness. He is listed as day-to-day. He has 33 goals and 63 assists in 63 games this season.

Of note, new Oilers winger Andreas Athanasiou, who was acquired at the trade deadline scored a goal and an assist in his Oilers debut on February 25. However, since that time he has gone pointless in seven games.
