Winnipeg Jets vs. New York Islanders Prediction, NHL Odds
The Islanders are 4-2-2 since returning from the All-Star break and have kept themselves in the wildcard race, but most move forward without their top gun up front.
New York will be a slight -112 favourite to win on the NHL odds while the total sits at 5.5.
Jets vs. Islanders NHL Betting Odds
Wednesday night head-to-head will be the first of two meetings between these teams this week, finishing their season series quickly. Winnipeg has not had any luck in this matchup recently, getting beaten by the Islanders in five consecutive meetings, with the Isles covering the spread in each win. With two defensive-minded teams facing off, it should not be surprising that five of their past seven have played the under. The newest member of the Islanders, Bo Horvat, has already picked up two goals in three games versus the Jets this season.
The Jets got back in the win column Monday and managed to cover the spread at the same time for the first in three games. The cover on the spread boosted them to 33-24 on the season, covering just four times in their last 10. Winnipeg has played the Under more than any other team in the league this season with a 14-39-4 record. In their past 10 games, they are 1-8-1 on the Over/Under hitting the Over last a month ago, on January 22nd.
New York covered the spread in their most recent win, snapping a five-game skid ATS and bumping their record to 29-31. They are 4-1-1 to the Over in their past six games moving their O/U total to 26-31-3, which makes sense considering they have been allowing just 2.8 goals per game (9th in NHL) and only scoring 2.9 per game (25th in NHL)
Winnipeg Jets
Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck outshined everyone else on the ice Monday versus the Rangers, making 50 saves and pulling his team to a 4-1 victory. The stellar performance was a new season high for the American as he continues to impress this season.
Pierre-Luc Dubois (22) opened the scoring in the contest with a powerplay goal and 10 minutes later was followed by Mark Scheifele’s first of two goals (33, 34). Kyle Connor also scored and had two helpers, increasing his team lead to 65 (26G 39A), including six points so far in February (2G, 4A)
After opening the road trip with back-to-back losses, the Jets are looking to end on a high note. They are sitting just one point back of the top spot in the Central Division, with a chance to overtake it Wednesday. They wrap up the month with a three-game homestand starting on Friday.
New York Islanders
The Islanders’ 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday was huge in terms of the Eastern Conference wild card, giving them a four-point lead over their fellow Metropolitan Division foe.
After going down 2-1 entering the third period, the newest Islander Bo Horvat started the comeback with his fourth goal with the team at almost the midway point of the third period. Anders Lee (22) scored just under two minutes later, giving New York the lead and Broc Nelson’s 26th would seal the deal in the empty net.
It was remarkable that the team could pull off a come-from-behind victory, without their star player Mathew Barzal, who left the previous game with an injury and was ruled out indefinitely.
This was their second time beating the Pens in the past four days, which were crucial games. They will now play two games at home before ending the month of February on the road. 3
