Winnipeg Jets vs. Carolina Hurricanes Prediction, NHL Odds
The Hurricanes are looking to break out of a two-game slump and they have scored only a single goal in their past three games. Both teams will be without key pieces to their lineups as the grind of the NHL season starts to take its toll.
The Hurricanes opened as -214 favourites to win on the NHL odds, with the total sitting at an even 6.0.
Jets vs. Hurricanes NHL Betting Odds
The Jets and Canes met earlier this season in Winnipeg back in November. Winnipeg held a 3-0 lead in the third period before the Hurricanes stormed back to tie things up and send the game to overtime. Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey scored his second goal of the game to preserve the win 4-3 for his team. The game hit the Over for just the third time in the last 10 head-to-head meetings between the teams.
Winnipeg has played the Over the fewest times of any team in the NHL with a 19-43-5 record on the Over/Under this season. They have broken that trend lately, hitting the Over in five of their past seven games. They have only won three of their past 10 games, causing them to slip to a wild card position in the Western Conference. In their past 10, the Jets have managed to cover the spread just four times, making them 37-30 ATS.
The Hurricanes have struggled over their past four games. Before being shutout in back-to-back games, they barely beat the Canadiens and Flyers. Carolina has failed to cover in four straight games and they now sit 28-37 ATS on the year. Their efforts have dropped them to second place in the Metropolitan Division. The Canes have played the Under in five straight outings and nine times in their past 10, bumping them to 28-35-2 against the total.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets have strung together back-to-back wins on the road and will be looking to sweep the road trip Tuesday night. Most recently, Connor Hellebuyck made 33 saves to help hold off the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 3-2 win Sunday night. Nino Neiderreiter (21) scored to extend his point streak to six games, while Nate Schmidt and Morgan Barron each scored their seventh of the season.
Impressively, Winnipeg has strung together wins without three of their best players: Josh Morrissey, Adam Lowry and Pierre-Luc Dubois. The trio have all missed the past few games and are now listed as day-to-day, per coach Rick Bowness.
No. 55, Mark Scheifele, currently leads the Jets with 38 goals on the season through 67 games, tying his career-high set in 2018-19. If you think the 29-year-old has what it takes to notch 50 goals for the first time in his career, place your bets on our NHL props where he is listed at +278 to accomplish the feat.
Carolina Hurricanes
After being shut out in back-to-back games, the Carolina Hurricanes have surrendered the top spot in the Metropolitan Division. In their most recent 3-0 loss in New Jersey versus the Devils, goalie Pyotr Kochetkov faced only 23 shots and allowed three goals, dropping the rookie’s record to 11-5-5. Defenceman Brent Burns did his thing on the backend, firing five shots on goal and ending the game with an even plus/minus.
It was the first time the Canes’ offence has been shut out in back-to-back games all season and missing All-Star winger Andrei Svechnikov could be part of the problem. The 22-year-old’s season is in jeopardy after suffering a knee injury in Saturday’s loss to the Golden Knights and he is listed as out indefinitely.
Despite slipping out of the top spot, Carolina is still a -159 favourite to win the Metropolitan Division on our NHL futures board. After Tuesday’s game, they will have a few days off before hitting the road for three games.
