Jets vs. Canadiens NHL Odds, Prediction and Picks: Habs Host Free-Falling Winnipeg
With the NBA going dark Tuesday due to Election Day in the United States, the NHL takes centre stage with a busy night. The lone matchup between teams from Canada features the free-falling Winnipeg Jets visiting Montreal. The Habs are -194 on the NHL odds with a total of 5.5 goals.
Jets vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds
We knew it would be a long season in Winnipeg with the whole Connor Hellebuyck situation. The team started well but is now in utter free-fall and getting almost nothing in net from the likes of Stuart Skinner, Clay Stevenson and Nico Daws. Does any team have it worse right now at goaltender? Montreal doesn’t have that problem with two good ones in Jacob Fowler and Jakub Dobes.
This already concludes the season series. On Oct. 25 in Winnipeg, the Canadiens prevailed 2-1. Fowler was the No. 1 star with 33 saves, while Lane Hutson (No. 2 star) and Kaiden Guhle had second-period goals for the winners. Skinner was the No. 3 star with 19 saves, while Isak Rosen had the Jets’ lone goal late in the third period.
Montreal is 6-4 in the past 10 meetings overall, and the over-under is just 2-8-0.
Winnipeg Jets
On Oct. 13, the Jets were 5-2 home upset winners over a good Minnesota team but haven’t won since, entering tonight on a nine-game losing streak that is easily the league’s longest by far. And the losses have tended to get worse of late, capped by a 7-0 whitewash at defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina on Sunday. That tied for the biggest shutout win in the league this season. Stuart Skinner, who made 12 saves, was pulled after allowing the fifth goal. Clay Stevenson stopped 13 shots in relief. Probably will be Skinner tonight. Centre Dawson Mercer (six assists) is in doubt after missing practice Monday with an upper-body injury. The Jets try extend their point streak in Montreal to four games dating to the 2023-24 season and tie their streak against the Rangers (4-0-0) for the second-longest active stretch against one team behind the Wild (6-0-0).
Montreal Canadiens
Montreal won its fifth straight game Saturday, 5-4 over visiting Pittsburgh. Winger Josh Anderson was the No. 1 star with two goals and a helper. Blueliner Lane Hutson had two assists to be named No. 3 star and now has 159 career points to pass Bryan Berard for the sixth most by an American defenceman before age 23. Phil Housley leads by far with 377 points. Montreal had two goals 27 seconds apart in the second period. It has done that only two other times in the past 30 years: April 12, 2026 and Jan. 4, 2012. Jacob Fowler won his seventh straight start with 25 saves and should be in there tonight. He’s the third Canadiens rookie goaltender over the past 40 years to record a winning streak of seven or more games. The others are Jakub Dobes (7-0-0 last season) Carey Price (7-0-0 in 2007-08). Blueliner Mike Matheson is out tonight and centre Kirby Dach in question.
