Montreal has yet to win back-to-back games in 2023 but has put together its best string of hockey in months, winning three of their past five games.

The Jets are the hottest team in the NHL right now and have climbed into first place in the Western Conference winning eight of their past nine games. Winnipeg will be the heavy -208 favourite to win on the NHL odds with the total set at 6.

Jets vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds

In their only season matchup, Kyle Connor scored the overtime winner for the Jets as they took a 3-2 win over the Habs on home ice. Winnipeg swept the series last season getting a bit of revenge after the Canadiens swept them in the 2021 playoffs. In those past eight meetings, they have split results on the Over/Under, and the spread 4-4.

Winnipeg has played the Under in all of their past three games and they are 2-8 to the Under in their past 10. Their 13-28-3 record in that column is due in part to their solid defensive play this season, allowing just 2.6 goals per game. The Jets are one of the hottest teams in the league right now and have covered in seven of their past 10 games.

The Canadiens have an even 22-22 record against the spread so far this season, which is pretty decent considering they have only won 18 of their 44 games. They have covered four of their past five, including their past three games in a row, where they have posted a 3-2 record. They are 17-24-1 on the Over/Under this season, partially because they have some of the worst offensive numbers in the league, scoring just 2.5 goals per game.

Winnipeg Jets

By the skin of their teeth, the Jets picked up their third win in a row Sunday night at home, squeaking past the bottom-feeding Arizona Coyotes by a score of 2-1. Pierre-Luc Dubois tipped in a Josh Morrissey point shot on the powerplay just 23 seconds into the second period to get the Jets on the board. After the Coyotes tied it 1-1, Blake Wheeler scored with just over three minutes to go in the period, which would stand as the game-winner.

Nikolaj Ehlers picked up an assist in the game to extend his point streak to five games. Since returning from an abdomen injury, the 26-year-old has been absolutely on fire leading the team in points with nine points (3G 6A) in the past five games.

Rick Bowness has completely turned this team around since being hired over the off-season. He has coached his team to first place in the Conference, overcoming multiple injuries and despite icing the same team that fans were disappointed with last season.

Montreal Canadiens

Cole Caufield’s third-period goal would stand as the game-winner as the Canadiens beat the Rangers 2-1 at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Caufield also picked up an assist on Kirby Dach’s powerplay goal in the first period, boosting his point total to 36 on the season, second on the team behind Nick Suzuki (37). Kirby Dach also set a new career-high in points with his goal, passing his previous best (26), which he posted last season in Chicago.

Sam Montembeault was lights out in this one, stopping 38 of 39, allowing the lone goal in the second period. Montembeault has started all of the Canadiens’ past four games after Jake Allen went down with an upper-body injury.

Since picking up their first win of the year on January 7th, Martin St. Louis’ Canadiens have played much better winning three of their past five outings.
