The Jets find themselves in a tight playoff race, holding onto the final wildcard spot in the Western Conference by a slim four points. Sunday’s game versus a Central Division rival will be crucial in their pursuit of the postseason.
Winnipeg is listed as the slight favourite to win on the NHL odds at -131 with the total sitting at 6.5.
Jets vs. Blues NHL Betting Odds
Winnipeg has had St. Louis’ number for the past few seasons beating them in eight of their past nine meetings. That includes all three matchups so far this season, where they shut out the Blues once and won by at least two every time. Mark Scheifele (3G 2A) and Josh Morrisey (2G 3A) have both scored over a point per game in the series, while Connor Hellebuyck has posted a 0.951 save percentage.
With a 20-45-4 record on the Over/Under the Jets play the Under more than any other team in the league. Their past two contests have played the Under as the offence has slowed down over the past seven games scoring just 2.5 goals per game. They have dropped the past three games against the spread, moving them to 37-33 ATS on the year.
The Blues have hit the Over in four straight games putting their record to 40-20-8 on the O/U. Their offence has been really clicking as of late, scoring five goals in three of their past four. Home ice has not been much of an advantage for St. Louis, dropping six of their past seven games at Enterprise Center.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets open their road trip in Nashville on Saturday afternoon in a crucial matchup with the Predators with their wild card spot on the line. After getting behind early in the first, the Jets battled back with goals from Nikolaj Ehlers (8) and Adam Lowry (9) in the third period and sent the game to overtime. In the extra frame, defenceman Neal Pionk crashed the net and scored his ninth to get the win for the ‘Peg snapping a two-game skid.
Josh Morrissey picked up two assists in the win, playing in his second game since returning from injury on Thursday. The 27-year-old defenceman is having a monster year with 69 points in 68 games. He is the second favourite to win the Norris Trophy on our NHL Futures board currently sitting +792 behind only Erik Karlsson.
Winnipeg has won their past five games when playing the second half of a back-to-back and will be looking to improve their 18-16-1 record on the road. With Hellebuyck playing Saturday, the Jets may turn to backup goalie David Rittich in St. Louis Sunday.
St. Louis Blues
After a chaotic 8-5 loss versus the Minnesota Wild, the Blues rebounded with a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals Friday night, breaking out of a two-game slump.
Sammy Blais’ fifth of the season opened the scoring two minutes into the game and the Blues never looked back, grabbing a 4-0 lead before heading to the third period. The Caps would rally with back-to-back goals in the final frame before Brayden Schenn would seal the deal with an empty net goal. Jordan Kyrou scored his team-leading 31st of the season, while Blais ended the game with a pair of goals. All three project players the Blues grabbed at the deadline got on the board in this game. Blais had a pair of goals, Kasperi Kapanen scored and Jakub Vrana had an assist against his old squad. Goalie Joel Hofer played his first game of the season, stopping 32 shots for his second career win.
Sunday’s matchup will be the second and final game of Jordan Binnington’s suspension for his actions in the game versus Minnesota. Hofer is expected to get the start again at home on Sunday versus the Jets.
