Carolina Hurricanes vs. Ottawa Senators Prediction, NHL Odds

The Hurricanes are in danger of losing the top spot in the Metropolitan after dropping back-to-back games. Wrapping up their three-game road trip with the top seed on the line should put some pep in their step with only three games left on the schedule.

Ottawa recently snapped a four-game skid and will be looking to spoil the fun for the Canes, in their second-last game of the season.

The Hurricanes are listed as the -190 favourite to win on the NHL odds with the total sitting at 6.5.

Hurricanes vs. Senators NHL Betting Odds

The Hurricanes have won both games throughout this season series, shutting out the Senators in their first matchup and beating them in overtime just a week ago. They have played the under in both meetings and Easter Monday’s matchup will be their third and final meeting of the season. In the past 18 games between the Canes and Sens, the favourite has come out on top 14 times, while the Under is 7-2 in their past nine.

Carolina has not been a good bet to cover the spread this season, posting just a 32-47 record ATS. They have only covered twice in their past 10 games including each of their past four games continuing their struggles on that line. Their most recent game hit the Over, snapping a streak of six straight the opposite way. They have played the Under in 43 of their 79 games this season, thanks to having solid defence, giving up the second-lowest number of goals.

The Sens’ offence exploded for seven goals on Saturday night, after being held to two goals or less in three of their previous four games. The Over is 6-3-1 in Ottawa’s past 10 games and they have a 39-40-1 record against the total with two games left in the season. Last week was an ugly one for Senators fans as they went 1-2-2. In that five-game stretch, they only covered the spread twice, once against Monday’s opponent in Carolina. They had a decent season against the spread, covering in 45 of their 80 games while being just barely above .500.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes have dropped back-to-back games and are now just one point ahead of the New Jersey Devils for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division.

In their most recent game versus the Buffalo Sabres, they took the lead two different times, but could not get the job done in the third period falling 4-3. Jesper Fast (9) and Seth Jarvis (14) scored to give them a lead in the first, then Sebastian Aho (35) scored to extend his team lead in goals. Aho is three goals behind his career high of 38 set back in 2019-20.

Antti Raanta stopped 26 shots taking his first loss since January seventh. He and Frederick Andersen have been trading starts since Raanta’s return from a lower-body injury.

Carolina has just three games left on their schedule, before opening a playoff series at home. They have been dominant on home ice this season posting a 27-10-3 record at PNC Arena.

Ottawa Senators

Drake Batherson (22) got the offence started for Ottawa just 30 seconds into Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Julien Gauthier (9) and Patrick Brown (4) scored to keep the Sens ahead before Alex Debrincat’s (27) powerplay goal would send it to the third period with the lead intact.

In the third, Egor Sokolov would score his first NHL goal on a breakaway giving them a comfortable 5-3 lead that they would ride to the finish. Mark Kastelic (7) and Claude Giroux’s (32) empty netter, would bring the Sens to a 7-4 final, snapping a four-game losing streak.

Giroux is now just two goals back from his career high, set in 2017-18. The 35-year-old forward has fit in unbelievably on this young Senators squad and with two games left, you can bet he will be looking to set a new career best.
