Now that fans are back in the seats, it didn’t take long for a full crowd to boo the Habs off the ice Tuesday night, in their 5-0 loss to the San Jose Sharks. The loss put their record at 0-4 to start the campaign, the worst start in franchise history.  Carolina, on the other hand, is 2-0 after taking down the Islanders and Predators to start the season.

The Hurricanes are -138 favourites to win on the NHL odds with a total of 5.5.

Hurricanes vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds

The Canadiens are winless through four games and the Hurricanes are undefeated through two, as these teams are trending in completely opposite directions. About 79 per cent of bettors are siding with the Hurricanes, who have had the Canadiens number, beating them eight out of the past 10 times.

The Canadiens have played the under in all of their games so far, thanks to a lack of offence. In four games, they have only scored three goals, but on the bright side, they have been bailed out a bit by goalie Jake Allen.

The Hurricanes have also received stellar goaltending from new guy Frederik Andersen. He’s allowed only five goals on 68 shots, good for a .926 save percentage. Carolina played the over in their opener when the offence scored six goals. They’ve covered the spread in both of their games.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes top dogs have been just that, early on this year, as they have scored nine goals in two games. Leading the way with three goals and an assist is Andrei Svechnikov, followed by Teuvo Teravainen, who has scored in both games.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi was one of the Habs’ best players during their playoff run last spring, but when he was scratched in the teams final loss, he felt he had played his last game with the club. A few short months later, the ugly divorce ended when Kotkaniemi signed an offer sheet with Carolina, which Montreal declined to match. He does not have a point yet, but the 21-year-old is no doubt a gamer and will have something to prove against his old squad tonight.

Montreal Canadiens

It is quite uncommon for the general manager to call a press conference four games into the season, but Marc Bergevin felt he had to Wednesday in Montreal. Bergevin met the media to try and take some of the stress off of his winless hockey club. He told reporters that the team will have to tough it out because he has no plans to make any changes.

The only positive out of Montreal to this point has been forward Jonathan Drouin. Drouin has scored 66 per cent of the teams goals so far, after missing the Habs’ playoff run in the spring.

Canadiens head coach Dominique Ducharme has already put his lines in a blender for this game, as he tries to get a spark from his squad.
