Robin Lehner was 1-1 with a 4.00 goals-against average and .862 save per centage, but he’s out this season injured. Logan Thompson allowed three goals in his lone start, a victory.
Mikael Backlund led Calgary with five points (1G, 4A) while Matthew Tkachuk had four (1G, 3A), but he’s of course now with the Florida Panthers. Jacob Markstrom was 1-2-0 with a 2.88 GAA and .904 SV.

After missing the playoffs last year for the first time in franchise history, Vegas is atop the Pacific Division at 3-0 under new coach Bruce Cassidy. The Knights come off a 5-2 win in Seattle on Saturday. Jonathan Marchessault scored twice and Keegan Kolesar, Reilly Smith and Shea Theodore also found the net. Marchessault leads the club with three goals. Vegas skaters have controlled just over 60 percent of the expected goals at 5-on-5, per Natural Stat Trick. Backup goaltender Adin Hill stopped 31 shots in his first start, but it should be No. 1 Logan Thompson here. He has allowed just three goals in his two outings. Thompson is a Calgary native. The Knights are 10-4 in their past 14 vs. the Pacific Division.
Calgary Flames
Calgary improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2009-10 with a 4-3 upset win at Edmonton on Saturday. Michael Stone had a goal and two assists, and Nazem Kadri added a goal and an assist in Calgary’s four-goal first period. Nazem Kadri (1-1-2) became the eighth player to record multiple points in his first-ever period of a Battle of Alberta game and the first since Petr Sykora, who had four points on Oct. 5, 2006. Mikael Backlund and Andrew Mangiapane also scored for Calgary and Dan Vladar stopped 26 shots, but it should be Jacob Markstrom (1-0, 3.00 GAA) here. “We’ve got to take care of business at home – especially early on in the season here,” Mangiapane said of facing Vegas. “They’re a good team, they’ve got some great players, and they’re playing some pretty good hockey right now, too. A good test. The goal for us is to come out with the same energy as we have been and the rest will take care of itself.” Calgary is 8-3 in its past 11 at home.
