Philadelphia Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Game 5 Prediction, NHL Playoff Odds

The Philadelphia Flyers will look to punch their ticket to the second round of the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night.

Philadelphia has a surprising stranglehold on this series after taking the first three games. Pittsburgh fought back for a 4-2 win on Saturday, but the Flyers remain firmly in control with three chances to move on to the second round.

Can Philly finish this on Monday, or will the Pens push things to Game 6?

Pittsburgh is a -140 favourite to win on the NHL odds, with the total pegged at an even 6.0.

Flyers vs. Penguins NHL Betting Odds

The Penguins temporarily staved off elimination in Game 4, but they still have a tall task ahead of them. Only four teams in NHL history have ever come back to win a best-of-seven series when trailing 3-0 and it hasn’t happened since the 2014 L.A. Kings.

The history is a bit interesting when it comes to the result in Game 4. While Pittsburgh is a modest 3-4 straight up in Game 4s when down 3-0 in a series, all three of those wins have come against the Flyers.

Oddsmakers are still on board the Philadelphia bandwagon, although the price has shifted considerably. The Flyers are currently -700 favourites to win the series on the NHL futures board, a steep decline from their -2000 price ahead of Game 4. The Penguins’ price has been cut in half, going from +1000 to +500 to complete the long shot comeback.

If you’re looking for an under-the-radar player prop, I’m all over Sidney Crosby to record 3+ shots in every game of the series. Crosby has had three or more shots in 17 of 27 career playoff games against Philadelphia, including six straight.

Philadelphia Flyers

Travis Konecny and Denver Barkey had the goals for the Flyers in Game 4, but that was as much offence as the team mustered despite outshooting Pittsburgh 30-21. Surprising rookie Porter Martone was held off the scoresheet for the first time this series and just the third time in 13 career regular season and playoff games.

The power play has been a longstanding issue for Philadelphia and it came back to bite them on Saturday. The Flyers went 0-for-3 on the man advantage, brining their playoff power play to 15.4 per cent. That’s almost an identical number to the league-worst 15.7 per cent PP they posted in the regular season. It’s not a recipe for sustained success in the playoffs.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Sidney Crosby opened the scoring on the power play in Game 4 with his firs goal of the series. Crosby and Rickard Rakell each finished with a goal and an assist, while Kris Letang and Connor Dewar also found the back of the net. The longtime Penguins captain now has 204 career playoff points (72G, 172A), good for third-most in NHL history with a single franchise behind only Wayne Gretzky (252 with Edmonton) and Mark Messier (215 with Edmonton).

One significant adjustment Pittsburgh made for Game 4 was replacing goaltender Stuart Skinner with Arturs Silovs, who turned aside 28 of 30 shots faced. Skinner was largely ineffective in the first three games of the series, posting a 3.08 goals-against average and .873 save percentage. In 38 starts for the Penguins during the regular season, Silovs recorded a 3.07 GAA and .888 SV.
