The Philadelphia Flyers make their lone visit of the season to two-time Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay on Tuesday night with the Lightning opening as -160 favourites to win on the NHL odds. The total is set at 5.5 goals.

Flyers vs. Lightning NHL Betting Odds

Tuesday is the second of three regular season meetings between these teams and Philadelphia’s lone visit to Tampa. They will be done with each other already on Dec. 5 when the Lightning return to the City of Brotherly Love.

The Bolts won in Philly 4-3 in a shootout last Thursday. Markham native Steven Stamkos and Brayden Point each scored in regulation and the shootout – more on Point below and it’s unfortunately not good news for the champs, who already are without another star forward in Nikita Kucherov for several weeks. Philadelphia led 2-0 after one but only got it to overtime on a Claude Giroux goal with nine seconds left in regulation. That was Giroux’s second goal of the game. Andrei Vasilevskiy was in net for Tampa and Carter Hart for Philadelphia and both should be Tuesday.

The favourite is 8-1 in the past nine meetings. The total has gone over in five of the past six in Tampa.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers enter on a two-game skid and haven’t won back-to-back games in nearly a month. They were beaten 5-2 at home by Boston on Saturday to drop back-to-back games for the first time this year. Derick Brassard had both Philly goals and has four on the season. Backup Martin Jones was in net but as noted above it should be Carter Hart here. He’s 5-3-3 with a 2.25 goals-against average and .932 save percentage. The team has several players out injured, among them blueliner Ryan Ellis and forwards Kevin Hayes and Wade Allison. None will play here. Claude Giroux leads the team with 16 points but is minus-2. Cam Atkinson is a team-best plus-11. The Flyers are 1-4 in their past five vs. teams with a winning record.

Tampa Bay Lightning

Tampa Bay beat the visiting Minnesota Wild 5-4 in a shootout on Sunday when Bolts backup Brian Elliott got a rare start in net. Steven Stamkos scored the lone shootout goal. Anthony Cirelli had two goals in regulation and was the No. 1 star. Cirelli moved up to the second line in taking the place of Brayden Point. He is out indefinitely with an upper-body injury. Point was spectacular in last season’s playoffs with 14 goals – the second straight year he led the NHL in postseason goals — and is fourth on the team with 13 points. Defenceman Erik Cernak hasn’t played since Nov. 9 due to an upper-body injury and is not expected back Tuesday. It will be Andrei Vasilevskiy in net. He’s 8-3-3 with a 2.38 GAA and .917 SV. Tampa Bay is 19-7 in its past 26 games vs. Metropolitan Division foes.
