Flyers vs. Capitals 4/13/21 Betting Analysis
The first place team in the East division, Washington opens as the -160 favourite tonight as they host the fifth place Flyers. The Capitals lead the season series 3-1 as they dropped the series opener at home back in February. Philadelphia will need to slow down Alex Ovechkin who has scored five goals and seven points in those four games. 91 percent of bettors are taking the Caps tonight.
Washington is currently second in the league in goals for, while Philadelphia is second in the league for goals against. The over/under is at 6 tonight and three of their four meetings have seen at least eight goals. The Capitals are playing the over a lot lately going 7-2 in their past nine. Bettor are less decisive on the total but the over still leads 72-28.
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers were relatively quiet during Mondays trade deadline as general manager Chuck Fletcher made two minor trades. He managed to move defenceman Erik Gustavsson to Montreal in exchange for a 7th round pick and also shipped Michael Raffl to the Capitals for a 5th rounder. Raffl has suited up for 504 games for the Flyers scoring 160 points in the span and will be missed by his long-time teammates.
Philadelphia’s playoff hopes continue to dwindle as .500 hockey is not going to be good enough to catch the fourth place Bruins, who also have games in hand. Philly is 4-4-2 in their last 10 and most recently blew two different leads in a game against the league’s worst team, Buffalo. Carter Hart gave up five in that game as he continues to struggle with consistency. Hart fell to 8-11-5 on the year with a 3.79 goals against average and a .872 save percentage.
Washington Capitals
The Capitals made the biggest splash on Monday’s trade deadline, picking up 6-foot-5 winger Anthony Mantha from the Detroit Red Wings. Mantha has been the most consistent forward in Detroit over the past couple of seasons and has 21 points so far this year. It looks like he’ll be skating on the second line when he makes his debut tonight. Going the other way in the trade were forwards Jakub Vrana and Richard Panik, along with a first and second round draft pick. Vrana, a first rounder and Stanley Cup champion with the Caps has 25 points through 39 games.
The Capitals return home after their biggest win of the season over the Bruins. Tj Oshie, Lars Eller, and Connor Sheary all scored two in the 8-1 victory. That brought Oshie to a total of six points in the last three games.
