NHL: Montreal Canadiens at Colorado Avalanche

The Montreal Canadiens will be looking to win three in a row for the first time since February 2023 when they host the slumping Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night in NHL betting action at Bell Centre.

The Canadiens return home after closing out a five-game Western swing with back-to-back victories, capped by Tuesday’s narrow 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche. The Flyers travel north of the border desperate for a win to maintain their grasp on third place in the Metropolitan Division standings after seeing their road losing streak extend to four games with Tuesday’s 6-5 defeat at the hands of the New York Rangers.

The Canadiens strong finish on the road has failed to give them a lift on the Thursday NHL odds, where they trail as +130 home underdogs. The Flyers lead the way as -155 favourites and total is list at 6.0.

Flyers vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds

The Canadiens are winless in their past two dates with the Flyers, capped by a 3-2 defeat in Philadelphia on January 10 in the lone meeting between these teams so far this season. Overall, the Habs have won five of nine dates with Philly including two of their past three on home ice. Each of those three clashes at Bell Centre have been high scoring affairs, and the total has topped 6.0 in four of their past six head-to-head contests.

The Flyers arrive in Montreal amid a worrisome 7-8-4 run, during which they have failed to tally consecutive victories and gone just 2-4-3. Consequently, Philadelphia now sits just one point up on the Washington Capitals in the race for third place in the Metro and just three points ahead of Detroit in the hunt for the second wild card in the East. Their precarious position in the standings has added significant value to their +360 odds of missing the NHL playoffs.

Philadelphia Flyers

For the second time in as many road games, the Flyers fell to defeat in overtime in Tuesday’s loss to the Rangers, and have now been lit up for 4.33 goals per game over their past nine outings. However, the team deserved a better fate after outshooting New York by a 42-27 margin. Scott Laughton and Travis Konecny continued to set the pace on the Flyers attack, each tallying two points in the loss. Laughton has now picked up three goals and two assists over the past five games, while Konecny has recorded two points in two of his past three outings.

Montreal Canadiens

The Canadiens have enjoyed solid goaltending and have benefitted from early scoring during a rare two-game win streak. The Habs needed just nine seconds to erase an early Avs lead on Tuesday night and got all their scoring down in the opening frame in the 2-1 win. Montreal also potted four first-period goals and received a standout 36-save performance from Cayden Primeau in last weekend’s 5-1 demolition of the Seattle Kraken. Promising young defenceman Kaiden Guhle provided the spark with a goal and two assists in Seattle and added a helper in Colorado. Alex Newhook has also chipped in two goals and an assist over the past two games, and has picked up a point in six of his past seven appearances on home ice.
