The Flames missed an opportunity on Monday afternoon to take a 2-0 series lead over the Jets. Winnipeg was short-handed on offence missing the services of Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine who were nursing injuries. Both all-stars are doubtful for Tuesday’s game three

Flames vs. Jets NHL Playoff Odds

This best of five series is essentially now a best of three between the Jets and Flames.

For the second time in this series and for the fifth time in the last five games overall, these two teams played to the under. The number for game three is also set at 5.5 goals.

Of note, Game 3 marks the first time any qualifying series will play on back to back days.

Calgary Flames

For the second time in two games, the Flames allowed the game’s opening goal, but this time it was attached to a 3-2 loss to the Jets in Game 2.

Elias Lindholm and Sam Bennett scored for the Flames. Bennett was one of the better Flames on the ice in 10:47 of ice time he had three shots on goal.

Johnny Gaudreau appeared to have hurt his hand from a hit by Neal Poink in the third period, but the Flames did not comment on the possible injury after the game.

Cam Talbot played his best game of the series stopping 23-of-26 shots he faced. He now has stopped 40-of-44 shots in the series.

Winnipeg Jets

Can the Jets ride the momentum of a gutsy game two win over the Flames? That’s the question hockey fans across the globe will be asking themselves.

Because of the injuries to Scheifele and Laine, Head Coach Paul Maurice had to shuffle his lines ahead of game two and it worked out. Andrew Copp centered the team’s top line alongside Blake Wheeler and Kyle Connor. While Mathieu Perreault moved into Patrik Laine’s position on the team’s second line.

Nikolaj Ehlers scored his first NHL post season goal (in 23 games) in the game; it was the game-winner goal in the 3-2 win. Adam Lowry scored a goal and an assist and now has three points in the first two games of the series. Jansen Harkins opened the scoring with his first NHL post season goal.

Of note, the team finally scored its first power-play goal of the series, but are still a disappointing 1-for-13 in the series. Gabriel Bourque and Nick Shore drew into the lineup Monday for the injured forwards.
