Calgary Flames vs. Winnipeg Jets Prediction, NHL Odds

The stars have aligned for Wednesday’s tilt to carry as much weight as possible. Calgary trails Winnipeg by two tiny points, although Winnipeg has a game in hand. In fact the Flames had a glorious opportunity to head into Manitoba tied on points, but coughed up a game at home to Chicago on Tuesday.

The host Jets are placed as -135 favourites the NHL odds’ moneyline and at +174 on the puckline. The total has been tabulated at 6.0 goals.

Flames vs. Jets NHL Betting Odds

Despite the clubs being Canadian rivals in the same conference, only three dates have been scheduled for the season. In each instance, the home side defended its ice by the score of 3-2. Calgary isn’t an especially high-scoring side, nor is Winnipeg, so keep the under in mind if placing a bet.

Truthfully, Darryl Sutter’s squad knows it probably should be entering tonight’s contest tied on points with the Jets, but at the very least they know a win will give them an edge as they’ll have won the season series 2-1. The loss on Tuesday halted a four-game winning streak, which is why Calgary is back in the playoff race at all. We know they can handle tough opposition, as one of those victories came against the Los Angeles Kings.

Winnipeg enters this contest on a goal-scoring blitz, having netted 12 times in their two most recent contests. That said, prior to that they had scored only six goals in four games – somehow still winning two of them – making this Winnipeg side a head-scratcher when it comes to predicting what one should expect from them. They can beat the stuffing out of a top dog like the Devils and get shut out by the Sharks.

Calgary Flames

There are a few ways to look at what happened last night. On the one hand, the Flames are probably kicking themselves for letting two points slip through their fingers. On the other hand, since the Jets game is only 24 hours later, there’s no time to mope about. Just get back on the horse.

Even so, the Chicago game was a fantastic opportunity to level the terms with Winnipeg. The Blackhawks had won the two previous games against the Flames this season, so there may have been something to their stellar performance. Andreas Athanasiou (17th) and Jujhar Khaira (fifth) gave the visitors a 2-1 first period lead on plays that simply looked like the Hawks wanted it more. Noah Hanifin (7th) helped Calgary tie the score 2-2 in the middle frame before Athanasiou scored his second of the game in the third period and Austin Wagner doubled Chicago’s lead barely two minutes later. The Flames would make it close in the dying minutes, but the fans went home frustrated. Flames lose, 4-3.

Winnipeg Jets

It was a heck of a weekend for the Winnipeg Jets. Their outburst for goals on Friday against the Red Wings was a precursor to their even more impressive performance on Sunday versus the Devils.

It was a matter of making the most of one’s opportunities. It isn’t often that a team that has more shots on goal (32-27 favouring New Jersey) gets blown out, but that’s exactly what happened. Connor Hellebuyck is reverting to his old ways, has he made 31 saves in an impressive outing. Nikolaj Ehlers had a brace (11th and 12th) that both opened the scoring for the Jets and ended it. In between Kyle Connor became a member of the 30 goals club and Pierre-Luc Dubois earned his 26th.  In a repeat of the Detroit game, by the time New Jersey found the back of the net, it was 6-0 in the third period. Make the final, Jets 6-1 Devils.
