Calgary Flames vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction, NHL Odds
The Flames hit the road after closing out a seven-game homestand with Monday’s 3-1 victory over Winnipeg. The Canucks aim to win two in a row on home ice for the first time since mid-December after posting a decisive 5-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Monday night.
Calgary is a -173 favourite to win on the NHL odds, with a total of 5.5.
Flames vs. Canucks NHL Betting Odds
The Flames have steadily gained ground since opening as -162 road favourites, improving to -173 chalk while supported by 79 per cent of the betting action. Conversely, the Canucks have faded to +143 home underdogs. Calgary has also improved slightly on the puckline, and now sits as an attractive +151 bet. The total is unchanged since opening at 5.5. However, the OVER is now favoured with lofty -124 odds.
Thursday night’s matchup at Rogers Arena marks the second of four regular season meetings between these Pacific Division rivals. The Flames kicked off their current 10-0-0 run with a 1-0 overtime win over the visiting Canucks on Jan. 29, and have now defeated Vancouver in 11 of 15 meetings since February 2019. The Flames have produced mixed results in Vancouver, where the Canucks have earned the win in two of four clashes. But while the Canucks topped Calgary by a 4-2 score in their most recent date in Vancouver last May, they have failed to tally consecutive home wins over the Flames in seven meetings.
These two teams have combined to score at least six total goals in five of seven matchups. However, that has not produced consistent results in totals betting, with the OVER going just 3-2-2 over that stretch.
The Flames have dominated defensively while equalling a franchise record with 10 straight wins, allowing just 15 total goals over that stretch. However, they have surrendered an average of four goals per game while losing five of their past eight road contests. High scoring has become increasingly commonplace during Vancouver’s current 8-4-3 run. The Canucks have potted 4.16 goals per game over their past six outings, but have also surrendered 4.25 goals per game over their past four home dates.
Calgary Flames
With Jacob Markstrom continuing to shine between the pipes, allowing just 10 total goals while tallying seven straight wins, the Flames attack has played with increasing confidence. Calgary has outshot opponents by an average margin of 13.2 shots over their past five games. And while the club has received offensive contributions from up and down the lineup, Elias Lindholm has been particularly hot, scoring nine goals and six assists during his current 10-game points streak.
Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks hope to build on a decisive 46-shot performance in Monday’s win over Seattle, but consistency has been a real problem for this club. Vancouver has blown early leads in four of their past seven outings, and they were outshot in four of five contests prior to Monday’s win. Goaltender Thatcher Demko turned in a stellar performance in the club’s recent overtime loss to Calgary, but he has compiled a dismal .841 save percentage while allowing 11 total goals over his past three appearances.
