With five losses over their past six games, the Calgary Flames open an Eastern Conference road trip in Montreal versus a Canadiens squad that has lost three straight.

After a red-hot 4-0 start the Flames have been distinguished winning just two of eight since then. The Canadiens themselves have been getting kicked around after a decent start. Two wins in their past nine games have dropped them to last place in the Atlantic Division.

The NHL odds have the Flames as the -125 favourites in this one, with the total set at 6 goals. Puck drop from the Bell Centre is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET.

Flames vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds

Calgary took both games in their two-game set last season, snapping a streak of five straight Habs wins before last season. The meetings tend to be low-scoring, totalling over six goals just three times in their past 10 meetings.

The Flames’ offence has been ice cold over the past 10 games, helping them hit the OVER only once in that stretch. They have been held to two or fewer in the past eight games while averaging 2.83 goals per game after 12 games. They are 2-2-1 on the road this year but got smoked in their past two road games by combined score of 10-1.

Montreal played the OVER in five straight before Saturday’s 3-1 loss in Pittsburgh, putting their record at 8-4 on the OVER/UNDER this season. Eight OVERS ties the Canadiens for third-most in the league, which can be attributed to their atrocious 4.08 goals against per game which is second worst in the NHL.

Calgary Flames

After shutting out the New Jersey Devils to snap a four-game slide, the Flames fell back into the loss column on Sunday in a rivalry game versus the Edmonton Oilers. Edmonton jumped to an early lead with a goal just 20 seconds into the game and scored another at the mid-way mark going up 2-0. Calgary got one back on the powerplay with Anthony Mantha’s fourth of the season and Yegor Sharangovich’s first tied it at two early in the third. Despite the Flames’ rally, Edmonton would score again in the third, before adding an empty netter for the 4-2 final.

For the first time this season, Dan Vladar has been in goal for back-to-back games for the Flames. He and Dustin Wolf have been splitting the crease until now and have both been solid options. They each have a .907 save percentage, but Vladar has a slightly better goals-against average and a shutout. Expect to see Wolf in goal versus a struggling Montreal squad.

Montreal Canadiens

After surrendering a combined 14 goals in two games, the Canadiens were looking to clean things up defensively heading into Pittsburgh on Saturday night. Sam Montembeault was solid in goal for the Habs, but ultimately it was one of the greatest players of all time who got the job done for Pittsburgh. Sidney Crosby scored at the end of the first and second period, giving the Pens a 2-0 lead headed into the third. Christian Dvorak scored his first to bring the Canadiens within one but with the empty net, Pittsburgh was the one to score for the 3-1 final.

Montreal has only held their opponents to three or fewer goals four times in 12 games this season. Their goaltender’s numbers have taken a huge step back from last season, with both netminders rocking sub .900 save percentage and over 3.4 goals against.

The Habs hope to improve their 3-4 record at home Tuesday night versus a shaky Flames team, before hitting the road for four games, where three of four opponents have a winning record.
