The city of Columbus, Ohio, is mostly known for Ohio State University. But, it also has a pretty good hockey team, which the Calgary Flames will visit on Tuesday.

Flames vs Blue Jackets Betting Analysis

First of two meetings between the Flames and Jackets, with Columbus visiting Calgary on March 19.

The Blue Jackets swept the 2017-18 season series, winning 1-0 in overtime at home fairly early in the year and 5-1 in Calgary near the end of the regular season. Pierre-Luc Dubois led the Blue Jackets with three points in the series, all goals. Artemi Panarin and Cam Atkinson both had two points, assists on all. Sergei Bobrovsky won both with a 0.49 goals-against average and .983 save percentage.

The only Calgary goal in the two games was via Chris Stewart, who is now out of the NHL. Mike Smith lost the 1-0 decision and Jon Gillies the 5-1 game. Gillies isn’t currently in the league.

The road team is 13-3 in the past 16 meetings and the under 4-1 in the previous five.

Calgary Flames

The Flames started their two-game jaunt through the U.S. Midwest with a 3-2 win in Chicago on Sunday. Sean Monahan and Elias Lindholm each had a goal and assist, but the No. 1 star was Derek Ryan, who scored the eventual winner at 8:44 of the second. The Flames were 2-for-6 on the power play and outshot Chicago 41-24. Smith made 22 saves to improve to 8-7-1 with a 3.06 GAA and .886 SV. He has won his past three, allowing a total of four goals.

Travis Hamonic took an elbow to the face from the Hawks’ Chris Kunitz and left for a bit but did return despite likely having a broken nose.  He’s a hockey player!

Columbus Blue Jackets

The Jackets had a two-game winning streak snapped Saturday in a 3-2 loss at the Islanders – Columbus hasn’t lost back-to-back game since Nov. 3-4. Very rare of the Blue Jackets to blow a two-goal lead as they did Saturday. It was the first time in eight games that Columbus didn’t score in the first period. Bobrovsky allowed the winner at 7:09 of the third. The Russian is now 10-8-0 with a 2.72 GAA and .911 SV.

Defenceman Ryan Murray injured his foot blocking a shot and likely will miss a while. He has a goal and 12 assists and averages 21:42 of ice time. Panarin and Atkinson are tied for the team lead with 27 points apiece. Atkinson has at least one point in career-high 10 straight games (10 goals and six assists in that span).
